As part of our aviation and aerospace testing hub, you’ll contribute to the development, testing, and airworthiness of military aircraft, enhancing operational readiness.

This 37-hour-per-week role offers the opportunity to collaborate in flexible working patterns, with the expectation of travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites. Performance is measured at a minimum average attendance of three days per week at Boscombe Down.


Key Responsibilities

You’ll report to the Team Leader and take ownership of the following essential duties:

  • Maintenance and Operation: Perform routine scheduled maintenance of Uncrewed Systems (UAS), operating those the individual is trained and competent on, in line with approved data and manuals.
  • Technical Excellence: Demonstrate expertise in:
    • Building, testing, repairing, and disassembly of UAS and associated payloads (per approved procedures and standards).
    • Operational preparedness—assisting during trials and ensuring systems meet Customer target requirements.
    • Fault diagnosis—troubleshooting UAS and associated equipment to resolve issues efficiently.
    • Compliance—adhering to Air Publications, OEM Manuals, the QinetiQ Operating Framework, and CAA Regulatory Publications.

Experience & Skills

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a regulated, safety-critical environment, specialising in UAS.
  • UAS flying experience.
  • Multidisciplinary knowledge of diverse UAS technologies (e.g., drones, payloads, sensors).
  • Exceptional IT proficiency, including ability to navigate online manuals, maintenance systems, and learn new tech.
  • Problem-solving mindset to diagnose faults and innovate solutions.

Qualifications

  • CAA Remote Piloting qualifications (highly desirable).
  • Engineering qualification (Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical) or completion of a relevant engineering apprenticeship.
    • Equivalent registration required: Must be professionally registered as an Eng Tech (or be able to progress to Registrar in preparation).
  • Full UK driving licence.
