RPA Engineer

We are looking to recruit an RPA Engineer to join our Business Transformation department.

The successful candidate will design, develop, implement and support automation solutions using Microsoft Power Platform technologies, helping to improve operational efficiency, reduce manual effort and deliver scalable business process automation across MSC UK.

The role will involve a combination of Power Automate Desktop, Power Automate Cloud Flows, Dataverse, API integrations and automation support activities, whilst ensuring solutions are delivered in accordance with established development, governance and security standards.

The RPA Engineer will work closely with business stakeholders, technical teams and solution architects to identify automation opportunities, design resilient solutions and support the continuous improvement of MSC UK's automation capability.

How you will help us and what you can expect

  • Design, build, test and deploy automation solutions using Microsoft Power Automate Desktop and Power Automate Cloud Flows.
  • Translate business requirements into technical automation solutions using appropriate automation and integration technologies.
  • Apply RPA and workflow best practices including modular design, exception handling, transaction management, queue processing, resilience and reusability.
  • Work closely with Technical Architects, Business Analysts and subject matter experts to support solution design, effort estimation and feasibility assessments.
  • Develop integrations with business systems through APIs, databases, file-based interfaces and standard Power Platform connectors where appropriate.
  • Evaluate automation opportunities and identify solutions that minimise operational risk whilst maximising business value.
  • Ensure delivered automations meet customer requirements and adhere to established development, governance, security and support standards.
  • Support the investigation and resolution of production issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Monitor and maintain existing automation solutions, ensuring service levels and operational performance expectations are achieved.
  • Continuously improve existing automations through optimisation, enhancement and adoption of emerging platform capabilities.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of technical documentation, process maps, support runbooks and solution design artefacts.
  • Collaborate with wider IT and Business Transformation teams to support enterprise automation initiatives and platform improvements.
  • Provide mentoring and knowledge sharing to team members and support the development of automation best practices across the organisation.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of automation standards, governance processes and delivery methodologies.
  • Provide technical leadership within assigned automation projects, supporting solution quality, engineering standards and mentoring team members.

Skills and experience you’ll bring to us

Essential

  • Strong experience developing automation solutions using Microsoft Power Automate Desktop.
  • Experience using Power Automate Cloud Flows within enterprise environments.
  • Experience designing and supporting end-to-end business process automations.
  • Understanding of Power Platform components including Dataverse, connectors and solution management.
  • Knowledge of common RPA and workflow design patterns including queue processing, retry handling, exception management and orchestration.
  • Experience integrating systems using REST APIs, web services, databases or similar technologies.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, debug and optimise complex automation solutions.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies including Agile and Scrum delivery models.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation.
  • Commitment to quality, continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

Desirable

  • Experience working with Microsoft Dataverse.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps or similar work management and application lifecycle platforms.
  • Knowledge of Power Platform administration, security and governance.
  • Understanding of ITIL principles and service management practices.
  • Experience with AI Builder, Copilot or intelligent automation technologies.
  • Knowledge of Power Apps.
  • Experience supporting production automation environments and monitoring operational performance.
  • Experience mentoring junior developers, citizen developers or automation practitioners.
