This is an exciting opportunity to lead and shape the redesign of the Neurodevelopmental Assessment Service, in North Highland, a key priority in Scotland’s national strategy for improving support for children, young people, and families with neurodevelopmental needs.
As the Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Lead, based in The Pines, Inverness, you will play a pivotal role in establishing and delivering high-quality, evidence-based neurodevelopmental assessments for children and young people. Working within a multi-disciplinary framework, you will lead service development, provide clinical leadership, and ensure that assessments align with national standards and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- With the Clinical Director and Service Manager, lead the strategic and clinical development of the Neurodevelopmental Assessment Service in collaboration with key partners and stakeholders.
- Provide expert psychological assessment and formulation for children and young people with suspected neurodevelopmental conditions where there is the need for differential and/or dual diagnoses alongside complex psychological formulation.
- Oversee and develop multi-disciplinary assessment pathways, ensuring efficient, child-centred, and evidence-based practice.
- Offer clinical supervision, consultation, and leadership to psychologists and other professionals within the service.
- Collaborate with key partners, including CAMHS, Community Paediatrics, Children’s Health Services in The Highland Council, education, social care, and third-sector organisations, to ensure integrated support for families.
- Contribute to training, service evaluation, and the implementation of the national neurodevelopmental specification.

About You
- HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist with significant experience in neurodevelopmental assessment and leadership.
- Expertise in the assessment and formulation of neurodevelopmental conditions.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience in service development and multi-disciplinary working.
- Ability to lead, supervise, and support a team of clinicians, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
- A commitment to improving access to high-quality neurodevelopmental assessments in line with national policy.
