The Role
We are looking for an experienced Ruby Backend Developer to build and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Part of a professional software engineering team helping to build and regularly ship software.
- Projects may include:
- Developing and maintaining backend applications using Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
- Designing and developing RESTful APIs and backend services.
- Working with databases, background jobs, caching, and third-party integrations.
- Writing clean, testable, and maintainable code.
- Troubleshooting performance and production issues.
- Collaborating with frontend, QA, DevOps, and product teams.
- Participating in system design and code reviews.
Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
- Mandatory professional experience with other backend technologies, such as Node.js, Python, Java, or.NET.
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL/MySQL and database optimisation.
- Experience with REST APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Experience with Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar backend technologies.
- Experience with Docker, CI/CD, and at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Strong testing experience with RSpec, Minitest, or equivalent.
- Good understanding of Git, software architecture, security, and performance optimisation.
