Ruby Script Developer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Ruby Script Developer based in United Kingdom.

This is an opportunity for an early-career software developer to build and maintain web applications using Ruby and Ruby on Rails.

  • You’ll collaborate with product managers and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into reliable technical solutions.
  • The role combines backend development with frontend work, giving you exposure to technologies such as Vue.js, JavaScript, and SASS/CSS.
  • You’ll also work with cloud deployment, version control, and modern software engineering practices in a remote environment.
  • Your contributions will directly support the delivery and continuous improvement of business-critical applications.
  • You’ll participate in code reviews, collaborate with other developers, and contribute ideas that improve development processes.

This role is well suited to someone who is curious, communicative, detail-oriented, and eager to grow their engineering expertise.

Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with product managers and cross-functional teams to understand requirements and develop Ruby scripts and applications aligned with business needs.
  • Write clean, maintainable, efficient, and scalable code using Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
  • Develop and maintain frontend components using Vue.js or other modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • Deploy and manage applications using Heroku and support reliable cloud-based application operations.
  • Follow Git version-control best practices and collaborate effectively within a development team.
  • Create and maintain SASS/CSS stylesheets to deliver consistent, functional, and visually appealing user interfaces.
  • Apply common software engineering design patterns and development principles to produce high-quality, scalable solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and incorporate feedback from peers.
  • Contribute to improving development processes, methodologies, and engineering practices.
  • Stay current with developments in Ruby, web development, and related technologies to continuously improve technical capabilities.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of professional experience in Ruby scripting and software development.
  • Strong proficiency in Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
  • Experience with frontend JavaScript frameworks such as Vue.js or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with Heroku deployment and managing applications in cloud environments.
  • Good understanding of Git and collaborative version-control practices.
  • Proficiency in SASS/CSS for styling and maintaining web applications.
  • Understanding and practical application of common software engineering design patterns.
  • Experience with Feathery is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote environment.
  • Experience with DevOps practices, shared codebases, CircleCI, or automated testing is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, adaptability, and willingness to learn new technologies.
