Lancashire Constabulary - Crime Scene Investigator (CSI) Opportunity

Are you passionate about forensic science and committed to delivering the highest standards of professionalism and service? Lancashire Constabulary is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join our Scientific Support Department as a Crime Scene Investigator (CSI).

As a Crime Scene Investigator, you will play a vital role in supporting operational policing by identifying, recovering, preserving, and documenting forensic evidence from a wide range of incidents. Your work will help bring offenders to justice and provide answers for victims and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with and perform all the procedures and other working practices required to achieve and maintain the ISO:17020 quality standard for the CSI Unit in accordance with the Forensic Science Regulator’s Code of Practice and Conduct and schedule of accreditation for forensic units in England and Wales.
  • Maintain personal competence to enable examination of all incident types, demonstrating the ability to prepare and examine a scene for evidence, recover and package exhibits, plan and take a range of evidential photographs to meet the needs of the customer and in accordance with departmental procedure and organizational policy.
  • Undertake photographic and video tasks relevant to the CSI role in support of Police investigations. Record intelligence and evidence in compliance with local and national procedures.
  • Provide scene and evidence preservation advice to Police Officers, Police Staff, and partners when required, including participation in delivering external departmental training inputs providing current guidance.
  • Manage the evidence recovery process and scenes when required, including the development of scene examination plans for volume and serious incident types, as appropriate.

Skills And Experience

  • Photographic, scientific, or forensic experience
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a team
  • Experience of dealing with people in difficult, sometimes confrontational circumstances
  • Experience of dealing with members of the public and working in partnership with other departments and agencies
  • Experience of producing accurate written information, demonstrating a high level of attention to detail

Vetting And Medical

Please be aware, as a condition of your appointment, you must undergo and pass Recruitment Vetting (RV). Please be aware there is a minimum 3-year UK residency requirement for Recruitment vetting and you must be 18 years old at the point of applying. Successful applicants will also be subject to a medical assessment.

Upon successful appointment as per the job specification, you will be required to provide your DNA for elimination purposes, this will be held against the Contamination Elimination Database (CED).
