For over 850 years, St John's Foundation has been supporting people across Bath and North East Somerset. Today, our purpose is simple: to change lives, for good We provide safe and affordable homes for older people, activities that promote wellbeing and connection, and practical support for people experiencing hardship.
As we continue to strengthen our impact and build for the future, we are seeking a new Trustee to join our Board.
This is an opportunity to contribute to an organisation that combines a long history of service with a clear focus on addressing current and emerging community needs. Our Trustees play a vital role in helping ensure the Foundation remains well governed, financially sustainable and focused on delivering meaningful outcomes for the people we serve.
About the Role
We are seeking an individual with substantial strategic experience in safeguarding and supporting older adults.
You are likely to have gained this experience through senior leadership roles within:
- Housing or supported housing
- Adult social care
- Community services
- Health
- Charitable or public sector organisations
- Or related sectors supporting older or vulnerable adults

As a Trustee, you will contribute to the strategic leadership and governance of the Foundation, helping to ensure that our services remain safe, effective and responsive to the needs of the people and communities we serve.
We are particularly interested in candidates who understand the opportunities and challenges facing older adults today, especially in relation to housing, wellbeing, loneliness, independence and safeguarding.
Knowledge of Bath and North East Somerset, and an appreciation of the local housing, demographic and social challenges affecting older people in our communities, would be advantageous.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will become a member of the Charitable Strategic Delivery & Impact Committee and may also contribute to the work of the People & Culture Committee.

- Be passionate about supporting older people to live with dignity, independence and connection
- Be motivated by the opportunity to use your skills and experience to make a meaningful difference
Previous Trustee or Non-Executive Director experience is welcome but not essential. We would particularly encourage applications from individuals with the expertise and values we are seeking who may be considering their first Board appointment.

Commitment
- Approximately 2 days per month
- 4 Board meetings per year (in person)
- 2 Board Away Days per year (in person)
- Membership of at least one Committee (4 meetings per year)
Committee meetings allow for a hybrid format, where required, to support participation from Trustees who are balancing professional and personal commitments.
