The Refugee Council - the nation’s refugee charity helping people who have escaped war and persecution to rebuild their lives, integrate into communities, and play their part in Britain – are looking for a Safeguarding, Risk & Incidents Manager to lead the operational delivery of safeguarding, incidents, complaints, risk and data protection functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Acting as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, deputising for the Head of Quality Improvement, Safeguarding & Risk as required, providing expert operational advice and oversight of safeguarding practice across the organisation.
- Implementing and maintaining safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legislation, regulation, organisational requirements and best practice.
- Overseeing safeguarding concerns, referrals, investigations and learning reviews, ensuring appropriate action, escalation, resolution and organisational learning, and share learning with the Head of Quality Improvement, Safeguarding & Risk and Quality Improvement Manager to inform organisational improvement.
- Managing the organisation's operational risk management processes, supporting the maintenance of the corporate risk register, ensuring risks, incidents and near misses are identified, recorded, assessed, monitored and reviewed appropriately.
- Producing risk reporting and analysis for the Head of Quality Improvement, Safeguarding & Risk and Senior Management Team, highlighting significant risks, emerging issues and areas requiring action.
- Leading the organisation's incidents and complaints processes, ensuring incidents, complaints and near misses are appropriately recorded, assessed, investigated, resolved and closed in line with organisational requirements.
- Monitoring actions arising from incidents and complaints, ensuring recommendations are implemented and risks are mitigated, and sharing learning to support organisational improvement.
- Leading compliance with UK GDPR and data protection legislation, including the management of data breaches, investigations, regulatory reporting and liaison with the Information Commissioner's Office.

Skills and Experience
- Relevant professional qualification or equivalent experience in safeguarding, risk management, investigations, compliance, data protection or a related discipline.
- Recognised safeguarding qualification or evidence of advanced safeguarding training.
- Data Protection qualification or willingness to obtain within an agreed timeframe.
- Significant experience of leading operational safeguarding practice within a complex organisation, including the management of safeguarding concerns, investigations, referrals and learning reviews involving vulnerable adults and/or children.
- Experience of leading organisational incident, complaint and case management processes from receipt through to investigation, resolution and closure.
- Strong working knowledge of safeguarding legislation, guidance and best practice, together with risk management methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection legislation and information governance requirements.

Salary: £46,852 - £51,228.
Contract and Hours: Permanent, full-time, 35 hours per week.
Location: Stratford, London with hybrid working.
