Trustee with Safeguarding Role
Organisation: The Creative Living Centre (CLC)
Location: Prestwich, Bury, Greater Manchester (hybrid/flexible board meetings)
Time Commitment: Approximately 2 hours per month (plus attendance at bi-monthly board meetings, committee oversight, and occasional advisory support)
Remuneration: Voluntary/Unremunerated (reasonable travel expenses paid)
About Us
The Creative Living Centre is a vibrant mental health charity based in Prestwich, supporting around 400 members annually. We provide a safe, calm, and inclusive space where adults experiencing emotional distress can access 1-to-1 counselling, creative therapeutic activities, and social connection. Rooted in a community model, our mission is to empower individuals to move from isolation and survival to resilience, agency, and long-term wellbeing.
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Trustee with a specialised focus on Safeguarding to join our active Board.
As a Trustee, you will share collective legal and strategic responsibility for the governance of the charity, ensuring we stay true to our mission, comply with regulatory requirements, and maintain financial stability.
As a Safeguarding Trustee, you will play a critical advisory role. You will support and mentor our senior management team (including our Designated Safeguarding Leads), ensure our policies and procedures reflect best practice across all adult mental health services, and provide an independent sounding board for complex safeguarding queries or risk assessments.

Key Responsibilities
Board Governance & Strategic Oversight
- Contribute actively to the Board of Trustees in setting the strategic direction, financial sustainability, and long-term vision of the charity.
- Ensure the CLC complies with its governing document, Charity Commission regulations, and other relevant legislation.
- Safeguard the good name, ethos, and values of the organisation.
Safeguarding Leadership & Advisory
- Act as a point of contact for safeguarding policies, procedures, and statutory compliance relating to adults at risk.
- Review and advise on organisational safeguarding policies, ensuring they align with local authority (Bury) multi-agency safeguarding arrangements and national best practice.
- Support the executive team and Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) by providing expert guidance on complex cases, training oversight, and audit processes.
- Ensure that safeguarding is embedded across all aspects of the centre’s operations, from creative therapies and group workshops to community outreach and peer support.
What We Are Looking For
We welcome applications from individuals who are passionate about community mental health and bring relevant professional expertise.
- Professional Background: Direct experience in adult safeguarding, social work, mental health services, criminal justice, statutory regulation, or a related legal/healthcare field.
- Understanding of Governance: Experience operating at a senior management, committee, or trustee level (though first-time trustees with the right professional background are strongly encouraged to apply; full induction will be provided).

- Analytical Mindset: Ability to review policies objectively, assess operational risks calmly, and offer constructive, practical challenge to the executive team.
