Site Compliance & Assurance Manager - SHEQ | Major Nuclear Infrastructure Site | Somerset
Role:
Are you a site-based SHEQ and compliance professional with hands-on WAF, RAMS, and assurance experience who wants a role with genuine independent authority at one of the UK's most regulated and high-profile project sites?
A specialist communications engineering and managed services business is seeking a Site Compliance & Assurance Manager to serve as its site-based functional lead for health, safety, environmental, quality, and work-control assurance at a major nuclear infrastructure site in Somerset on a permanent basis. The postholder coordinates the Work Authorisation Form process, assures RAMS implementation and site controls, conducts compliance inspections, maintains assurance evidence, and represents the business at site governance forums including the EPRLG.
This is an independent assurance role with real authority. The postholder can intervene and require work to be paused where there is an immediate or material safety, environmental, quality, or compliance concern, with an independent escalation route to the SHEQ Manager that sits outside of operational management.
Responsibilities:
- Acting as the site-based WAF coordination lead and internal process owner for preparation, control, submission, tracking, and close-out
- Carrying out planned and reactive site inspections, observations, and assurance checks
- Managing the RAMS review and control process, ensuring documents are current, approved, communicated, and implemented
- Raising, managing, and tracking non-conformances, recommendations for improvement, and observations
- Monitoring environmental controls including waste management, spill prevention, and environmental event reporting
- Attending and representing the business at relevant site governance forums
- Maintaining the site compliance and assurance record and producing a monthly compliance report
- Supporting accident, incident, near-miss, and compliance investigations including root cause analysis and corrective actions

Skills/Must Have:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or Construction Certificate – essential
- SMSTS (Black Hat) certified – essential
- Demonstrable experience in a site-based SHEQ, compliance, or assurance role within construction, infrastructure, utilities, nuclear, or another highly regulated environment
- Practical experience of RAMS, safe systems of work, site inspections, incident investigation, and corrective actions
- Experience of work authorisation, permit-to-work, WAF, or a comparable controlled-work process
- Working knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001
- Understanding of quality assurance inspections, document revision control, and NCR management
- Environmental controls knowledge including waste management, spill prevention, and environmental event reporting
- Full UK driving licence

Nice to Have:
- Internal auditor qualification and practical audit experience
- Environmental qualification or demonstrable environmental compliance experience
- Previous experience on a nuclear licensed or similarly regulated site
- CDM 2015 knowledge and construction-phase compliance experience
- Temporary Works Coordinator certification
- Client-facing governance forum experience and monthly assurance reporting
Benefits:
- £55,000 base salary

- Site-based position with a visible, active role at a nationally significant infrastructure project
- Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm
- Travel to and from site via park and ride or pool vehicle
