Contract Safety-Critical Embedded Software Engineer – C/C++ / RTOS – Hybrid (UK)
We’re looking for an experienced Safety-Critical Embedded Software Engineer to support the development of high-integrity embedded systems within a complex engineering environment.
This is a hands-on contract role focused on embedded C/C++ development across the full software lifecycle. You’ll work on real-time systems where reliability, verification, traceability, and robust engineering processes are fundamental to successful delivery.

Essential:
- Strong Embedded C and/or C++ development experience
- Experience developing safety-critical or high-integrity software
- Bare-metal and/or RTOS-based development
- Experience with microcontrollers and hardware/software integration
- Full software lifecycle experience across requirements, design, implementation, testing, and verification
- Experience working to formal development standards such as DO-178C, IEC 61508, ISO 26262, EN 50128, or equivalent
- Strong understanding of requirements traceability and verification
Desirable:
- MISRA C/C++ or similar coding standards
- Static analysis and unit testing tools
- Software verification and validation experience
- Requirements management tools such as DOORS
- ARM-based embedded platforms
- Experience within aerospace, defence, automotive, rail, medical, nuclear, or similarly regulated environments
