Stroud District Council is an ambitious and forward-thinking authority located in one of the country's most attractive areas. Sustainability sits at the heart of everything we do, helping us create thriving communities and a great place to work.

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Safety, Health and Compliance Officer to join our Assets and Investment team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in helping ensure the Council meets its regulatory and statutory responsibilities across our housing portfolio. The role supports compliance across a range of specialist areas including asbestos, legionella, radon, fire safety, gas safety, electrical safety and lifts, whilst promoting a positive health and safety culture throughout the service.

Working closely with managers, supervisors, contractors and stakeholders, you will lead on auditing, compliance monitoring, incident investigation, policy development, contract management and the delivery of health and safety training. You will be responsible for providing specialist advice, supporting risk management activities and helping drive continual improvement towards recognised standards such as ISO 45001.

Key Requirements

  • Experience in a health and safety or compliance role who can demonstrate a practical understanding of health and safety legislation, risk management and compliance assurance.
  • Hold a NEBOSH General Certificate and TechIOSH (or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of auditing, contractor management, incident investigation and working within property, construction or social housing environments would be particularly advantageous.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
