SHW Advisor – Regional Civil Engineering (RCE)

We are recruiting for a SHW Advisor to join us here at Octavius Infrastructure.

Location: Based in the South West.

About Us:
We are a leading civil engineering organisation delivering safe, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions across the UK.

As part of this role, you will support our Regional Civil Engineering (RCE) business unit covering the South West of England.

Octavius' Regional Civil Engineering (RCE) team delivers locally focused civil engineering projects that improve everyday infrastructure, working closely with local authorities and public-sector clients. The team undertakes highways and public realm schemes, bridge and structure works, drainage and flood alleviation projects, and urban infrastructure improvements, with a strong emphasis on community engagement, social value, and minimising disruption through regionally based delivery teams.

Your Role Will Include:

  • Providing specialist Safety, Health and Wellbeing (SHW) advice, guidance and assurance across live operational sites and offices within RCE.
  • Acting as the operational SHW lead, supporting site teams to create safe and healthy working environments and ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and Octavius management systems.
  • Supporting the delivery of the SHW strategy across RCE projects.
  • Advising, coaching and challenging operational teams to embed best practice.
  • Monitoring SHW performance, analysing trends and driving continual improvement.
  • Leading accident and incident investigations, ensuring lessons learned are embedded.
  • Facilitating audits, inspections and assurance reviews (ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, RISQS).
  • Attending project and client meetings, representing Octavius on SHW matters.
  • Contributing to SHW communications such as STOPThink! briefs, Octavius Alerts and safety stand-downs.
  • Providing proactive SHW input during pre-delivery and planning stages.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
