Are you a highly experienced aviation safety professional ready to influence safety strategy on a global scale?

We are seeking a Safety Management System (SMS) Manager to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a world-class aviation Safety Management System across multiple international sites. This is a strategic leadership position with significant visibility, responsible for driving safety culture, regulatory compliance, risk management, and operational excellence throughout a complex aerospace organisation.

This is a unique opportunity to become the focal point for aviation safety, partnering with senior leadership, regulatory authorities, engineering teams, and operational stakeholders worldwide.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and continuously improve the company's global Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Champion a proactive safety culture across all sites and functions
  • Identify hazards, assess risks, and drive effective mitigation strategies
  • Investigate safety occurrences, incidents, and near misses, ensuring robust corrective and preventative actions
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and performance reviews
  • Analyse safety data and trends to identify emerging risks and opportunities for improvement
  • Collaborate with engineering, compliance, airworthiness, manufacturing, and operational teams to ensure SMS integration
  • Develop and manage Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs) and KPI reporting frameworks
  • Present safety performance and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and safety review boards
  • Lead and coordinate a network of Safety Officers and Safety Representatives across international locations
  • Deliver safety training, awareness initiatives, and aviation safety promotion activities
  • Monitor evolving aviation regulations and ensure organisational compliance
  • Support internal and external audits while driving timely closure of findings and actions

Essential

  • Professional certifications in airworthiness, aviation safety, or quality management are preferable.
  • Strong working knowledge of aviation regulations (such as EASA and ICAO standards and local civil aviation authority requirements).
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of ICAO Annex 19
  • At least 15 years of experience in the aviation industry with good working knowledge of aviation safety, DOA, POA, MOA, and quality assurance systems.
  • Working knowledge of EASA’s requirements for Safety Management Systems and implementation of SMS in a reasonable size organization.
