At Tarmac, who you are matters. We are currently looking for a passionate and engaging Technical Skills Trainer to join our Learning & Development team and play a vital role in developing the skills, competence and confidence of our operational workforce.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced trainer who enjoys making a real impact through learning. Working across the business, you’ll deliver high-quality accredited and in-house training programmes, support apprentices on their development journeys, and help ensure our people have the knowledge and skills they need to work safely and effectively.
As a Technical Skills Trainer, you'll be part of a collaborative team that is committed to delivering exceptional learning experiences, driving operational excellence and supporting the future development of our people. Based across the UK with travel as required, you'll work closely with operational teams, stakeholders and learners to promote a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
What You'll Be Doing
As our Technical Skills Trainer, you will:
- Deliver engaging accredited and in-house training programmes across Safety, Health and operational competence disciplines
- Facilitate classroom, practical, face-to-face and virtual learning sessions using a range of training methods
- Support apprenticeship programmes through high-quality coaching, facilitation and learner guidance
- Review learner coursework and portfolio evidence, providing constructive feedback to support successful progression
- Conduct regular learner progress reviews, identify barriers to development and implement appropriate support plans
- Carry out assessments through approved processes and maintain accurate assessment records
- Create, maintain and enhance training materials, learning resources and session plans
- Adapt training delivery to suit different audiences, experience levels and operational environments
- Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, progress and compliance records in line with internal and external requirements
- Build strong relationships with operational managers, apprenticeship stakeholders, awarding bodies and Learning & Development colleagues
- Promote safe, inclusive and engaging learning environments
- Help drive continuous improvement by gathering feedback and contributing to the development of training programmes and ways of working

What We Are Looking For
We're looking for someone who is passionate about developing people and capable of delivering impactful training that supports both learner success and business performance
Essential
- Experience delivering training within an operational, industrial, manufacturing or similarly practical environment
- Experience supporting learners through structured development programmes, including apprenticeships or vocational learning
- Experience reviewing learner work, providing developmental feedback and supporting learner progression
- Experience maintaining accurate learner records, documentation and programme evidence
- A recognised training, teaching or learning qualification such as PTLLS, AET or equivalent
- IOSH, NEBOSH or a comparable Safety, Health or operational qualification
- A strong understanding of training quality, compliance and learner support requirements
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required
We’d Also Love to See
- Experience delivering apprenticeship programmes and supporting learner portfolio management
- Experience delivering accredited Safety or Health training
- Knowledge of awarding bodies, training providers and vocational learning environments
- Experience delivering operational competence, mobile plant, maintenance or related training programmes
- Knowledge of safeguarding, Prevent and British values within a learning environment
- Experience creating or updating learning materials and training content
