Your Impact

As Safety & Security Advisor you will strengthen Climate Impact Partners’ organisational safety and security systems, providing specialist training, protocol development and ad hoc advisory support that help keep our people safe as they deliver field operations across Kenya, the Philippines, Colombia and India.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Security Training

  • Design and deliver two safety and security training sessions per year, tailored to the specific risks and operating context of each priority country (Kenya, the Philippines, Colombia and India).
  • Cover core topics including personal safety awareness, travel risk management, incident reporting, emergency response procedures, crisis communication and safeguarding.
  • Develop and provide supporting training materials and reference guides for use by staff and field teams.
  • Produce post-training reports summarising attendance, key themes and recommendations for follow-up action.

Safety & Security Protocol Assessment & Development

  • Review CIP’s existing safety and security frameworks and identify gaps against good practice.
  • Conduct risk assessments for each priority country, reflecting the local threat and operating environment.
  • Develop and update country-specific safety and security plans, standard operating procedures (SOPs), escalation protocols and crisis/evacuation procedures.
  • Design clear communication trees to support rapid escalation in the event of an incident.
  • Consolidate findings into a set of minimum safety and security standards applicable across all CIP field operations.

Ad Hoc Advisory Support

  • Be available on a retainer basis to provide rapid, expert guidance in response to security deterioration, civil unrest, natural disasters or other serious incidents.
  • Advise on travel risk in advance of, and during, staff travel to higher-risk locations.
  • Support senior management with timely, practical recommendations as situations evolve.
  • Participate in crisis response calls as required, providing specialist input to decision-making.

Deliverables & Reporting

  • Deliver two annual training sessions, complete with supporting materials and attendance records.
  • Provide updated risk assessments and revised or newly developed protocols and SOPs for each priority country.
  • Produce written advisory notes following any ad hoc support provided.
  • Prepare an annual summary report covering training delivered, protocols developed and advisory support provided over the year.

Industry Knowledge

  • Strong working knowledge of safety and security risk management in international development, humanitarian or corporate contexts, including experience operating in or advising on higher-risk environments.
  • Familiarity with the operating context of Kenya, the Philippines, Colombia and India, or comparable higher-risk environments.
  • Sound understanding of travel risk management, crisis and emergency response planning, and incident escalation protocols.
  • Working knowledge of safeguarding principles and their application to field-based operations.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience designing and delivering safety and security training to teams operating in the field, ideally across multiple countries or regions.
  • Track record of developing safety and security protocols, SOPs, risk assessments and crisis/evacuation plans.
  • Strong analytical and risk assessment skills, with the ability to translate complex risk information into clear, practical guidance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience advising senior stakeholders.
  • Experience providing crisis or incident response support, including remote advisory support outside standard hours where required.
  • Relevant professional qualifications or certifications in security management, risk management or hostile environment training are desirable.
  • Eligible to work as a self-employed contractor in the UK, engaged on a Statement of Work basis under CIP’s standard Contractor Agreement.
