Job Summary
The Salaried GP will provide high-quality, patient-centred primary medical services to the registered patients of Meddygfa Glan Cynon Surgery. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective and responsive healthcare, whilst supporting the practice's commitment to continuity of care, medical education and service development.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Undertake routine and urgent GP consultations, appointments including house calls and a low-frequency on call requirement.
- Assess, diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Prescribe safely and appropriately in line with local and national guidance.
- Make referrals to secondary care and community services where appropriate.
- Review pathology, radiology and other investigation results.
- Undertake home visits where clinically required.
- Provide advice and support to patients and carers.
- Participate in safeguarding processes for children and vulnerable adults.
- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records using EMIS Web.

Administrative Responsibilities
- Complete referrals, reports, correspondence and associated clinical administration.
- Review laboratory and diagnostic results.
- Action workflow tasks within agreed timescales.
- Complete medical reports and documentation as required.
Quality and Governance
- Participate in clinical governance activities.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and audits.
- Comply with GMC standards and professional requirements.
- Maintain up to date mandatory training and appraisal requirements.
- Participate in Significant Event Analysis and learning activities.
Teaching and Training
As a teaching practice, opportunities are available to:
- Support undergraduate medical students.
- Contribute to postgraduate GP training.
- Participate in educational activities and mentoring where appropriate.
Team Working
- Work collaboratively with GP Partners, Salaried GPs, Practice Nurses, HCAs, Pharmacists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute positively to team development and service improvement.
- Promote a supportive and respectful working environment.

Person Specification
Essential
- Fully qualified General Practitioner.
- Registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise.
- Included on the NHS Wales Performers List or eligible for inclusion.
- Evidence of ongoing CPD.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to high-quality patient care.
Desirable
- Interest in medical education and training.
- Experience of EMIS Web.
- Interest in developing specialist clinical areas.
- Previous experience working within UK General Practice.
Working Pattern
- 4-6 sessions per week.
- Working day aligned to BMA recommendations.
- Flexible working arrangements may be considered.
