The salary scale for a Band 3 has been adjusted as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and will be implemented in August 2026 backdated to 01 April 2026 where applicable.

Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking General Practitioner to join our Acute Medical Team on a fixed term salaried basis, supporting the initial assessment and management of adult patients presenting with emergent and acute medical conditions. Work will predominately within the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service.
This is an opportunity for a GP wishing to diversify their portfolio career, with the potential to work part-time alongside an existing primary care role. The position offers flexibility while providing valuable experience in an acute hospital setting.
You will play a key role in delivering same day emergency care within an ambulatory model, helping to assess, diagnose, treat and safely discharge patients without the need for hospital admission where appropriate.
Flexible working arrangements are available, making this role well-suited to GPs seeking a part-time salaried position that complements an existing GP role.
Main Duties of the Job
Clinical
- Respond to medical problems presented by patients, by means of history taking, examination, investigation where appropriate, diagnosis, treatment and referral.
- Provide clinical review and management of patients referred to the Acute Medicine service deemed suitable for SDEC.
- Demonstrates robust risk management in clinical decision making within SDEC.
- Ensure handover of care documentation is completed for SDEC patients including robust arrangements for follow up and outstanding investigations.
- Work as part of the Acute Medicine team, assessing and treating patients independently, seeking support as required from the supervising Consultant Acute Physician.
- Provide competency appropriate clinical leadership for resident clinician’s working in Medical SDEC unit.
- Provide advice and support to clinical staff referring patients to the Medical SDEC unit.
Service Management
- Normal duties, workload and important non-clinical roles will be articulated through a Job Plan.
- To contribute when appropriate to the provision of support, education and training of SDEC team.
Quality and Service Improvement
- To ensure appropriate clinical standards within SDEC are achieved and maintained.
- Undertake audit activities and contribute to a critical review of service effectiveness.
- Work collaboratively to improve service delivery and outcomes for patients.
- Support the ongoing development and collaboration between Secondary and Primary Care.
