Are you an engineer with experience in 2D/3D measurement, machine vision, automation, metrology or industrial inspection? Do you enjoy getting to the bottom of a customer's technical problem, assessing what's possible and developing a solution that genuinely works?
This is an exciting opportunity to join a specialist technology business as a Sales & Applications Engineer, working with some of the most advanced measurement and inspection technologies used across modern manufacturing.
The Role
This is not a traditional sales role.
You'll sit at the intersection of technical applications, customer problem-solving and commercial sales, helping manufacturers understand what is technically possible and selecting the right 2D/3D technology for their application.
You'll work with customers on everything from profile and dimensional measurement through to surface inspection, quality control and automated inspection, supporting opportunities from the initial technical conversation through testing, demonstration and ultimately the sale.
You'll be dealing with technologies including:
- 2D/3D laser profile scanners
- 3D snapshot sensors
- Surface inspection technology
- Optical measurement
- 3D inspection software
- Sensor interfaces and industrial communications
- Automation and system integration
What You'll Be Doing
You'll become the technical point of contact for customers looking to solve complex measurement and inspection challenges.
Your role will include:
- Visiting customer sites across the UK to understand applications and technical requirements
- Assessing 2D/3D measurement, profile, dimensional and inspection applications
- Selecting and recommending the appropriate sensor and measurement technology
- Supporting customer demonstrations, trials and proof-of-concept projects
- Working with customer samples and coordinating laboratory testing
- Assessing application feasibility and installation requirements
- Supporting quotations, technical proposals and commercial justification
- Working alongside sales and applications teams to develop opportunities
- Liaising with international technical teams for specialist application support
- Building long-term relationships with engineers, quality teams, automation specialists and manufacturing customers

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You'll need to be:
- Technically credible and comfortable talking to engineers
- Confident visiting customer sites
