Instro Precision Limited is a rapidly evolving defence and aerospace company with nearly 60 years of experience in precision engineering. Based at a custom-built facility in Discovery Park, Sandwich, Kent, the company operates over 27,000 sq ft of manufacturing space to design, develop, manufacture, deliver, and support products for a global customer base.

Instro focuses on four key business areas: Soldier Systems and Special Forces, Target Acquisition Systems, Armoured Fighting Vehicle solutions, and a Core Product Line. The company recently secured a major UK MoD tender for next-generation Night Vision Goggles, reflecting its commitment to innovation and cutting-edge defence equipment.

Role Description

The Sales & BD Manager is a full-time hybrid role based in Sandwich, Kent, with the flexibility to work from home part of the time. The role is responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities in defence and aerospace markets, managing key customer relationships, and driving revenue growth across Instro’s core product pillars.

  • Prospecting and qualifying leads
  • Preparing and delivering customer presentations
  • Leading bid and tender processes
  • Negotiating commercial terms in line with company strategy

The Sales & BD Manager will collaborate closely with engineering, operations, and program teams to shape customer solutions, ensure accurate forecasting, and support the full sales cycle from initial contact through to contract award and after-sales support. The role also involves market analysis, participation in trade shows and customer visits, and contributing to long-term sales and business development plans.

Qualifications

  • Sales and business development experience in defence, aerospace, or related engineering sectors, including lead generation, pipeline management, and closing complex deals.
  • Strong customer relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trust with UK and international clients and partners.
  • Experience in bid and tender management, including proposal development, pricing, and contract negotiation with government and commercial customers.
  • Commercial and market analysis skills, including understanding of defence procurement processes, competitor landscapes, and strategic account planning.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, demonstrating collaboration, accountability, and a focus on outcomes and customer commitments.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities, with attention to detail and capability to manage multiple opportunities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience in business, engineering, or a related field; familiarity
