Sharp Consultancy Partners with Sheffield Engineering Firm for Sales & Commercial Manager Role

Sharp Consultancy is pleased to partner with a Sheffield-based engineering and manufacturing business in their search for a Sales & Commercial Manager.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially driven engineering professional to take ownership of a broad remit spanning Technical Sales, Commercial Management, Pre-Production, and Business Development.

Reporting directly to the Board, you will play a key role in shaping the company’s commercial strategy while ensuring customer requirements translate effectively from initial enquiry through to production.

The Role

You will lead the Pre-Production function, overseeing Order Entry, Estimating, and Planning, while working closely with production teams across laser cutting, press braking, machining, fabrication, shotblasting, painting, and assembly.

The role will combine customer relationship management and new business development with the operational and commercial responsibility of ensuring quotations, orders, and production plans are accurate, achievable, and profitable.

  • Leading and developing the Pre-Production team across order entry, estimating, and planning.
  • Driving improvements across quoting, order intake, and scheduling processes.
  • Managing the commercial process from initial request for quote through to production launch.
  • Developing new business opportunities across multi-process engineering and manufacturing.
  • Building strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Working closely with production teams to align customer requirements, capacity, and lead times.
  • Supporting the Board with commercial targets, budgets, and financial forecasting.
  • Monitoring and reporting key commercial KPIs and business performance.
  • Maintaining a strong focus on quotation accuracy, material costs, and job profitability.
  • Leading regular pre-production meetings to manage priorities, resources, risks, and actions.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Sales, Commercial, or Pre-Production professional with a strong background within engineering, manufacturing, or metal fabrication.

You will ideally bring:

  • 3–5 years’ experience in a supervisory or management position within an engineering/manufacturing commercial environment.
  • Knowledge of various engineering processes including laser cutting, press braking, CNC machining, surface treatment, and mechanical assembly.
  • Experience across technical estimating, manufacturing planning, and/or ERP/MRP systems.
  • A proven track record within technical sales and delivering against commercial targets.
  • Strong commercial and financial awareness, particularly around pricing, costs, and profitability.
  • The ability to interpret engineering drawings and make commercially sound decisions.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the confidence to engage at Board level.
