Sales Development Representative (SDR)

Cyber Security & Compliance

2 roles | Chester, office based | £25,000 + £8,000 OTE | Full-time, 37.5 hrs, Mon–Fri

No sales experience required. We’ll teach you.

About Protos Networks

We’re a network and cyber security specialist based in Chester, founded by security engineers who came out of corporate, public sector and defence roles. We run managed networks and security operations, deliver penetration testing, and take organisations through Cyber Essentials, Cyber Essentials Plus, IASME and DCC certification.

The role

We’re hiring two SDRs to generate new business conversations for our sales team. You’ll start on our compliance and testing services: Cyber Essentials, Cyber Essentials Plus, IASME and DCC certification, plus penetration testing. These are well-defined services with a clear buyer and a clear reason to act, which makes them the right place to learn. As you get good, you’ll move onto our Cisco networking and managed detection and response lines.

This is a fully outbound role. Your day is the phone, email and LinkedIn, working targeted lists to find organisations that need certifying or testing and booking meetings for the sales team. If you don’t like the idea of picking up the phone and speaking to strangers all day, this isn’t the job for you.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you’ll do

  • Research and build target account lists using Salesforce and ZoomInfo
  • Make outbound calls, send emails and run LinkedIn outreach to organisations in your patch
  • Qualify interest by understanding what they need certified or tested, and when
  • Book meetings for our account executives, and make sure those meetings are worth their time
  • Keep Salesforce accurate, because your pipeline is only as good as your data

What we’re looking for

Essential

  • You’re comfortable talking to strangers on the phone and you don’t take rejection personally
  • You can hold a clear, confident conversation and think on your feet
  • You’re organised enough to work a list properly rather than cherry-picking the easy ones
  • You want a career in sales, not just a job

Useful, not required

  • Any experience in a phone-based or target-driven role (retail, hospitality, call centre and charity fundraising all count)
  • An interest in cyber security or IT
  • Familiarity with a CRM

We’re hiring for attitude and coachability. Everything technical is teachable and we will teach it.

Training and progression

You’ll be coached daily for your first month and weekly after that. Call listening, live feedback, objection practice and script work. You’ll also learn the compliance frameworks properly, so you understand what you’re actually selling.

The route from here is account executive, typically 18 to 24 months for someone hitting target consistently.

What we offer

  • £25,000 base plus £8,000 on-target commission, paid on meetings your account executive accepts as qualified. Reduced target during your first three months so you’re earning while you learn.
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Your birthday off, paid, on top of your 25 days
  • Workplace pension
  • On-site parking
  • Regular team socials

Office-based, five days a week. We’ve made that choice deliberately: with two new SDRs starting together, being on the floor for coaching, call listening and learning from each other is what gets people good fastest. We’ll review it at six months.

How to apply

Send your CV to sales@protosnetworks.com

The first stage is a 15-minute phone call, so make sure the number on your CV is one you’ll actually answer.

Applications close Friday 30 October 2026. You must have the right to work in the UK; we’re not able to offer sponsorship.
