Sales Development Representative (SDR)

Avail Logistics

Role Overview

Avail Logistics is looking for a hungry, ambitious Sales Development Representative (SDR) to join our growing team. This isn't a role for someone brand new to the world of work — we're looking for someone who already has some sales, telesales or commercially-facing experience and is ready to build on it, taking on increasing responsibility for discovery calls and, in time, closing business themselves.

This role suits someone who has already proven they can hold a conversation, handle rejection and work towards targets, and now wants to sharpen those skills — prospecting, qualifying, running discovery conversations and building a pipeline — on the way to a full sales-closing position.

You'll be responsible for qualifying and progressing inbound marketing leads, and proactively self-generating new business opportunities through outbound prospecting, with a clear path to owning deals from first contact through to close as you prove yourself.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to, qualify and progress leads generated through Avail Logistics' marketing activity.
  • Proactively identify and approach potential new customers through telephone, email, LinkedIn and other appropriate channels.
  • Research target companies and relevant decision-makers across Avail's target markets.
  • Run discovery conversations to understand a prospect's requirements, current arrangements and potential opportunities.
  • Build relationships with prospective customers and establish Avail Logistics as a credible potential supplier.
  • Identify genuine commercial opportunities and progress qualified prospects through the sales pipeline.
  • As experience grows, take on increasing ownership of deals — progressing towards running your own discovery-to-close sales cycle.
  • Conduct structured follow-up activity to keep opportunities moving.
  • Maintain accurate records of leads, conversations, opportunities and next actions within the company's CRM system.
  • Work closely with marketing and the wider sales team to ensure campaigns and lead-generation activity convert into meaningful opportunities.
  • Develop a strong understanding of Avail Logistics' services and clearly communicate our capabilities and value proposition to prospective customers.
  • Work towards agreed activity and performance targets, including calls, conversations, qualified opportunities and meetings booked.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What We're Looking For

The most important attribute for this role is drive. We're looking for someone hungry to build a career in sales, motivated by targets, and genuinely excited by the challenge of creating new opportunities — but who also brings some grounding in a sales or commercially-facing environment already.

  • Previous experience in sales, telesales, business development, recruitment or another commercially focused, target-driven role — this is not intended as a first job.
  • A genuine “hunter” mentality — comfortable picking up the phone and starting conversations rather than waiting for opportunities to arrive.
  • Ambition to grow into a full sales role, taking on discovery and closing responsibility over time.
  • Confident speaking with new people and initiating conversations with prospective customers.
  • Persistent and resilient when dealing with rejection or hard-to-reach prospects.
  • Organised and disciplined when managing follow-ups and a pipeline of prospects.
  • Commercially aware, with the ability to recognise when a conversation could develop into a business opportunity.
  • A positive, proactive approach and a genuine willingness to learn and be coached.
  • Logistics industry experience, and specifically same-day (A2B) courier experience, would be a strong bonus but is not required. What matters most is a demonstrable track record of working to targets in a customer-facing or sales role.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role isn't simply measured by call volume — it's about building a consistent pipeline of credible opportunities and progressively taking on more of the sales cycle yourself. Key indicators are likely to include:

  • Speed and quality of response to inbound marketing leads.
  • Number of qualified prospects and self-generated new-business opportunities identified.
  • Quality of discovery conversations and progression of prospects through the pipeline.
  • Growth in ownership of the sales cycle over time — from qualifying, to discovery, to closing.
  • Quality and accuracy of CRM activity.
  • Ultimately, contribution towards new customers and revenue generated for Avail Logistics.

The Person

This role would suit someone with a proven bit of sales or commercial experience behind them already, who is genuinely ambitious to progress further and build a long-term career in sales. You'll be given structured support to develop from generating and qualifying opportunities into running full discovery calls, and in time, closing business of your own.

You should be someone who enjoys opening doors, isn't afraid of the phone, and sees this as the first step towards a long-term career in sales rather than a short-term role.

Package & Details

  • Salary: circa £30,000–£32,000 basic, with a realistic OTE of £35,000-£37,000.
  • Holiday: 5 weeks (25 days) plus bank holidays.
  • Location: Office-based. City Centre Manchester.
  • Progression: Growing involvement in the full sales process over time — from qualifying and discovery through to closing — as you gain experience and demonstrate results.
