Job Purpose:
The Sales Director will lead, manage and develop long-term relationships with existing and prospective clients. The role primarily focuses on new business generation, project scoping, tender and proposal support with strategic account development, commercial ownership and close collaboration with operations, technology and delivery teams.
The successful candidate will be expected to understand each client’s business priorities, identify where we can create value, and turn opportunities into well-scoped, profitable and deliverable work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
New Business and Opportunity Development
- Follow up inbound enquiries quickly and professionally, qualifying each opportunity against fit, value, urgency and deliverability.
- Generate self-sourced opportunities through targeted outreach, referrals, existing-client insight and sector knowledge.
- Pitch proposition confidently, with clear linkage between the client’s operational problem and the recommended solution.
- Support the development of compelling client stories, proof points and sector messages that strengthen future sales engagement.
Commercial, Proposal and Tender Ownership
- Create accurate quotations, proposals, job specifications and contract inputs that are commercially sound and operationally realistic.
- Contribute to tender responses, clarifications and presentations, particularly where security, quality, process design and service value need to be clearly explained.
- Work with the team to protect margin, manage commercial risk and develop profitable growth within target accounts.
- Keep Salesforce up to date with activity, contacts, next actions, pipeline status, qualification notes and forecast information.
Client Relationship and Account Growth
- Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, operational contacts and procurement teams across key accounts.
- Run structured client engagement through face-to-face meetings, service reviews, opportunity reviews and proactive follow-up.
- Identify account expansion opportunities across storage, scanning, data capture, mailroom, workflow automation, hybrid mail and related SPS services.
- Develop account plans that translate client challenges into clear commercial actions and next steps.

Operational and Solution Alignment
- Liaise closely with operations, digital transformation, IT, compliance and project teams to ensure client requirements are properly understood and delivered.
- Help shape project scopes so that work can move from sales discussion to controlled delivery with clear assumptions, dependencies and service expectations.
- Act as a client advocate internally while maintaining a balanced view of operational capacity, information security and commercial viability.
- Escalate risks, delays, complaints, data concerns or health and safety matters promptly and constructively.
Candidate Skills:
- Self-driven, resilient and results-oriented, with a positive outlook and a clear focus on quality, client value and profitable growth.
- Proven experience in account management, business development or client relationship management.
- A track record of meeting or exceeding targets in a B2B environment.
- Strong face-to-face, telephone, presentation and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple opportunities, stakeholders and deadlines without losing commercial focus.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint, plus CRM systems such as Salesforce.
- Desirable experience in document management, business process outsourcing, digital mailroom, scanning, data capture, workflow automation or customer communications.
- Desirable experience selling into regulated sectors such as legal, financial services, insurance, pensions, healthcare, public sector, housing or utilities.
- Desirable experience supporting tenders, framework responses, procurement exercises or formal client presentations.
- Awareness of information security, data protection, ISO-certified environments and audit-led service delivery.
