The Opportunity:

We are working with an established and growing business that is looking to appoint an experienced Sales Director to lead its commercial and sales functions.

This is a senior leadership position, responsible for developing and executing the commercial strategy to drive revenue growth, maximise profitability, and increase market share. You will lead and develop the commercial and sales teams, manage key customer relationships, identify new business opportunities, and work closely with the wider senior leadership team to ensure the business continues to grow successfully.

The successful candidate will be commercially astute, entrepreneurial, and highly results-focused, with the ability to combine strategic thinking with hands-on sales leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take overall responsibility for sales performance, targets, forecasts, and commercial reporting, ensuring financial objectives are achieved and commercial risks are effectively managed.
  • Develop and implement sales and commercial strategies designed to increase revenue, profitability, and market share.
  • Continually identify opportunities to improve processes, performance, and the overall effectiveness of the business.
  • Ensure sales resources are effectively allocated towards high-potential opportunities, maximising productivity and revenue generation.
  • Drive proactive prospecting, lead generation, networking, and business development activity to identify and engage new customers.
  • Lead sales presentations and product demonstrations, effectively communicating the features, benefits, and value of the company's products and services.
  • Lead, manage, mentor, and develop the commercial and sales teams, creating a high-performance culture and supporting individuals to achieve their objectives.
  • Work closely with department heads to prepare accurate weekly and monthly estimates, forecasts, and commercial reports.
  • Partner with the senior leadership team on business decisions, overhead control, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers, ensuring their needs are understood, business is retained, and opportunities for growth are maximised.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of industry trends, market developments, and competitor activity, identifying new commercial opportunities.
  • Oversee the end-to-end management of tenders and contracts, ensuring submissions are accurate, commercially sound, and delivered on time.
  • Provide commercial and contractual support across the wider business.
  • Contribute to annual budgets, long-range business planning, and sales forecasting.
  • Represent the business at trade shows, networking events, and industry functions, strengthening the company's profile and maximising business development opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively across all departments, particularly Sales and Commercial, to ensure a joined-up approach to business performance.
  • Support the effective implementation and maintenance of company management systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate commercial records and documentation are maintained to the required statutory and company standards.
  • Set the tone and vision for behaviours aligned with company values, encouraging collaboration, accountability, and high performance.
  • Ensure people and resources are reallocated effectively to meet changing priorities and deliver against tight deadlines.
  • Promote a professional company image at all times.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
