Sales Director – MA Business - HR Magazine

Hybrid: Herne Hill, London - 3 days in the office

Salary: Up to £50,000 depending on experience and company benefits.

Commission: circa £25,000 uncapped commission, where applicable

Contract: Permanent, full-time


At Mark Allen, we create specialist content, events, data and insight for professional communities across sectors that matter.

As one of the brand’s two Sales Directors, you will be central to the continued commercial success of HR magazine. This includes the established magazine, website, events and awards. You will develop and deliver new business, maximise the return on investment for existing clients, and drive innovation through content-led commercial initiatives.

This is a senior sales role for a commercially astute professional who is equally comfortable working with multinational agencies and senior marketers at major business brands. You will build new accounts, manage established client relationships and follow industry trends closely to identify opportunities in a fast-moving sector.

What you’ll be doing

  • Sell a full range of products, including print and digital display advertising, lead-generation projects, and sponsorship of awards, podcasts and webinars
  • Work with editorial, ad ops, data, marketing and in-house design teams to create topical, engaging client campaigns for the audience
  • Build effective relationships with clients directly and through agency contacts
  • Develop new commercial opportunities and brand extensions to keep the portfolio ahead of competitors
  • Attend industry exhibitions, conferences and events as a brand ambassador
  • Work with the Publisher to develop sales strategies, set annual budgets and oversee new sales initiatives
  • Provide regular, accurate forecasts and contribute actively to weekly sales meetings covering pipeline, projects and budgets

Must-haves:

  • At least five years' proven experience in sales, with a record of regularly exceeding targets and goals
  • A strong new-business mindset and the ability to grow existing accounts through excellent client relationship management
  • The confidence to write high-quality proposals and communicate clearly and concisely with clients, colleagues and senior stakeholders
  • Creative commercial thinking, with the ability to develop strong commercial ideas, brand extensions and client solutions
  • Accurate forecasting, a sound understanding of budgets and profit and loss accounts, and a disciplined approach to pipeline management
  • Excellent organisation, time management and resilience when managing competing priorities.
  • A collaborative, professional approach, with strong listening skills and the confidence to challenge constructively when needed
  • A proactive approach to networking and using LinkedIn to promote the brand and generate business
  • An interest in the world of HR
