Sales Director – Electronics

Employment Type: Permanent
Select Talent is delighted to be engaged to appoint a Sales Director for an established electronics manufacturing business.
Supporting customers across aerospace and defence, medical, industrial and automotive markets, the business provides technical expertise and manufacturing capability to help customers bring complex electronic products to market.
The Role
This is a senior commercial opportunity focused on winning new customers, developing strategic relationships and driving profitable growth across electronics manufacturing services. You will work directly with engineering, procurement and senior leadership teams to understand their requirements and develop proposals covering PCB assembly, electronics manufacturing and associated supply chain services.
The position combines strategic market development with hands-on sales delivery. You will identify target accounts, open doors, build a qualified pipeline and lead opportunities through technical engagement, quotation, negotiation and contract award. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports, offering significant ownership of business development activity and customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver a business development plan that expands the customer base and generates sustainable, profitable revenue.
- Identify and engage prospective customers across aerospace and defence, medical, industrial, automotive and other relevant technology markets.
- Build relationships with senior decision-makers across engineering, procurement, operations and executive leadership.
- Understand customer products, manufacturing requirements and supply chain challenges to propose suitable electronics manufacturing solutions.
- Own the sales process from initial contact and qualification through RFQ, proposal development, negotiation and contract award.
- Work closely with engineering, production, quality and internal sales teams to develop technically credible and commercially competitive proposals.
- Lead pricing and contract discussions, balancing customer requirements with margin, operational capability and long-term account value.
- Identify new programmes and opportunities within existing accounts, broadening customer relationships and the services supplied.
- Maintain a clear, qualified pipeline with accurate forecasts, opportunity updates and activity recorded in the CRM.
- Monitor market developments, competitor activity and emerging customer needs to inform commercial priorities.
- Represent the business at customer meetings, industry events, exhibitions and networking opportunities.
- Support a clear handover of new business into the operational teams, ensuring customer expectations and commitments are understood.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
