Sales Director - Managing Director (Sales Focus) Designate – Niche Metals Distributor

Location: Sheffield Area
Industry: Specialist metals and high-performance alloys

Remuneration Package: Up to £125k base salary (DOE), £200k OTE. The package will include a company car, annual bonus, and equity participation.

We are partnered with a highly regarded specialist metals business recently acquired by an ambitious PE approach owner, supplying high-performance metals and precision alloys to a diverse range of demanding end markets, including electronics manufacturing, aerospace, defence, energy, medical, and advanced manufacturing.

This represents an outstanding opportunity for a commercially astute, ambitious, and competitive Sales Director, looking to take the next step towards Managing Director or a sales-led Managing Director, to assume leadership of a well-established platform and drive its next phase of growth. The business serves customers across the UK and internationally, with approximately 50% of sales generated through export markets, and offers the opportunity to build through organic growth and further through potential acquisitions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Personally drive and lead new business, visiting new customers and potential targets.
  • Develop and lead the existing sales team.
  • Set and execute ambitious sales strategies to drive growth in multiple markets.
  • Strengthen and grow key customer relationships across aerospace, defence, semiconductor, medical, and energy sectors, supporting major accounts and new business development.
  • Take ownership of the P&L, drive profitability, and ensure operational excellence.
  • Oversight of day-to-day operations, ensuring the team follows all processes and resources are in place from lead sourcing through sales to order fulfillment and dispatch.
  • Manage a team of approximately 15 employees.
  • Identify potential value-added acquisitions and support the diligence process.

About You

  • Driven, competitive, and ambitious by nature.
  • Highly numerate.
  • Experience in the specialty steel or nickel alloy industry or in selling to corporate clients, including OEMs, in the industries noted above currently supplied by the Company.
  • Proven track record of delivering sales and profit growth.
  • Strong leadership experience, ideally in a senior commercial or sales-focused role.
  • Experience managing supply chains, stock inventory, and quality systems, ideally including AS9120/ISO 9001 environments.
  • Experience with international markets and export sales.
  • Hands-on entrepreneurial and target-driven mindset.
  • Excellent communicator and relationship builder.
  • Must have a “sleeves rolled up” approach relevant for a company of this size.
