Who Are We?

Mercure Newport is a contemporary city-centre hotel at the heart of one of Wales' most exciting and fast-growing business destinations. Combining modern accommodation, meetings and events facilities, and food & beverage experiences, the hotel is perfectly positioned to serve both business and leisure guests.

We're looking for a commercially driven Sales Director who can help unlock the hotel's full potential by building meaningful relationships, identifying new opportunities, and establishing Mercure Newport as a destination of choice within the local community and wider corporate market.

What Is in It for You?

As part of the Aimbridge team, you'll have access to industry-leading benefits, including:

  • Industry-leading training and leadership development opportunities
  • Hotel discounts portfolio-wide, including staff rates and up to 50% off food, beverage and spa experiences
  • Access to Wagestream, allowing you to stream up to 40% of earned pay and build savings automatically
  • 24/7 access to our Employee Assistance Programme
  • Flexible working opportunities
  • Minimum of 30 days holiday
  • Staff meals provided whilst on duty
  • Competitive salary and bonus opportunity
  • Career and lifestyle breaks to support key life events

A Day in the Life of…

This is not a desk-based sales role. We are looking for an ambitious, relationship-driven commercial leader who thrives on being out in the market, building connections and creating opportunities that others might miss.

As Sales Director for Mercure Newport, you will be the driving force behind the hotel's commercial success. Working closely with the General Manager, you will champion the hotel within the local business community, developing meaningful partnerships that generate new revenue opportunities across both accommodation and food & beverage.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

A key focus of the role will be identifying innovative ways to attract local business into the hotel. Whether that's creating networking events, developing partnerships with local organisations, securing private dining opportunities, supporting community initiatives, or introducing fresh concepts that make the hotel a destination for local people, you'll be expected to think creatively and act decisively.

Alongside this, you'll build and strengthen relationships with corporate clients, driving accommodation, meetings and events business throughout the week while increasing market share across Newport and the surrounding region.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys opening doors, creating conversations and turning opportunities into long-term commercial partnerships. Whilst there is no direct line management responsibility, you'll work collaboratively across the hotel, influencing colleagues, championing commercial thinking and ensuring opportunities are identified and converted at every stage of the guest journey.

Success in this role will come from your visibility within the market, your ability to build trusted relationships and your passion for finding new ways to drive revenue, enhance guest experiences and raise the profile of the hotel.
