Lloyd's List Intelligence delivers the trusted maritime data, analytics, and insight that keeps global trade moving. Powered by 3,000+ intelligence sources, proprietary AIS data, and a global network of analysts, we provide real-time visibility into the world's fleets, trade flows, and risks. By combining advanced analytics, AI, and human expertise, our intelligence helps organisations across shipping, finance, commodities, insurance, legal, and government sectors make confident decisions, reducing risk exposure, optimising operations, and identifying commercial opportunities. With over 300 years of maritime heritage, we continue to shape the future of trade intelligence, transforming vessel, ownership, compliance, and emissions data into clarity that drives smarter, safer, and more transparent trade.

Role Profile

As Sales Director - Shipping, Commodities & Law, you will lead the commercial strategy and sales performance for the Shipping, Commodities & Legal vertical across EMEA, with accountability for the accounts, revenue and team within your agreed area of responsibility, reporting to the Head of Region. You will own revenue performance in your client accounts across the shipping, commodity trading, energy and maritime legal markets, lead and develop a team of account managers, and act as the senior commercial lead for key shipping, commodities and legal clients.

You’ll translate LLI’s fleet analytics, AIS tracking, ownership and compliance data and emissions insight into operational, commercial and evidential value for clients making decisions on vessels, cargoes, counterparties and disputes. Combining sales leadership, sector strategy and executive relationship management, you will build a high-performing team and a repeatable engine for retention and expansion.

This is a hybrid role based in our modern, centrally located London office, with a wide variety of services and transport links situated nearby.

Who you’ll work with

You and your team will partner with senior decision-makers across the shipping, commodities and legal ecosystem, including:

  • Shipowners, ship managers and operators, charterers and shipbrokers
  • Commodity trading houses across energy, metals and agriculture, and oil & gas / energy majors
  • Bunker suppliers, ports and terminals, and classification societies
  • Maritime and shipping law firms, in-house legal teams and general counsel
  • Arbitrators, dispute-resolution practices and expert-witness / casualty investigation teams

Key Responsibilities

1. Sales Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of account managers covering the shipping, commodities and legal vertical.
  • Set clear targets, KPIs and territory/account structures, and manage performance to a consistently high standard.
  • Recruit, onboard and retain top commercial talent, building a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Instil disciplined sales methodology, deal qualification and coaching rhythms across the team.

2. Sector Strategy & Go-to-Market

  • Own the go-to-market strategy for shipping, commodities and legal markets, including segmentation, target account selection and sector-specific value propositions.
  • Position LLI’s intelligence against clear use cases, fleet and voyage analytics, chartering and trade-flow insight, commodity-trade compliance and sanctions, and legal use cases such as litigation, arbitration, casualty investigation, due diligence and expert evidence.
  • Drive demand generation and pipeline creation in partnership with Marketing, and identify white-space and cross-sell opportunities across the portfolio.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
