Interim Managing Director / Sales Director (Protection & Retirement)

Location: South of England / Hybrid
Duration: Interim Assignment

NSCG are working with a well-established UK financial services organisation seeking an experienced Interim Managing Director / Sales Director to lead a significant sales and distribution function during a period of transformation and growth.

This is a high-impact leadership role with responsibility for driving commercial performance across a sizeable intermediary distribution network. While the remit includes both protection and retirement products, the primary focus is on accelerating growth, market share, and sales effectiveness within the protection business.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the executive leadership team, you will be responsible for reviewing, challenging, and enhancing the existing sales strategy, ensuring the organisation is well-positioned to achieve ambitious commercial objectives.

You will lead a senior sales team and work closely with product, marketing, operations, and executive stakeholders to improve sales performance, strengthen adviser engagement, and deliver sustainable growth.

Key priorities will include:

  • Developing and executing the sales strategy for protection and retirement products
  • Reviewing and optimising sales processes, governance, and performance management frameworks
  • Driving increased distribution through intermediary and adviser channels
  • Improving sales productivity, conversion rates, and pipeline performance
  • Leading and coaching senior sales leaders to enhance capability and execution
  • Building stronger relationships with key strategic partners and distribution firms
  • Identifying market opportunities and commercial initiatives to drive revenue growth
  • Ensuring the sales organisation is aligned to changing customer, adviser, and regulatory requirements
  • Providing visible leadership during a period of strategic change

About You

We are looking for a commercially minded financial services leader with a proven track record of delivering growth within protection, insurance, or retirement markets.

You are likely to bring:

  • Previous experience as a Managing Director, Sales Director, Commercial Director, or Executive Sales Leader
  • Deep understanding of the UK protection market, including intermediary distribution
  • Strong experience developing and implementing sales strategy
  • Demonstrable success improving sales effectiveness and commercial performance
  • Experience leading large sales teams and senior stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of adviser and broker distribution models
  • Credibility at executive and board level
  • Experience operating within regulated financial services environments
