Job Title: Sales Engineer

Reports to: Sales Manager

Location: Reading, United Kingdom

Position Summary

This is a dynamic role that encompasses both strategic sales initiatives and hands-on customer engagement. This individual will be instrumental in driving sales and promoting the full range of products and services. Tasked with both nurturing existing client relationships and forging new ones, the Sales Engineer will leverage their technical expertise to advise and meet the diverse needs of customers within the Geotechnical Industry. Working closely with the Sales Manager and the sales team, the Sales Engineer will play a crucial role in driving the company's growth plans and increasing its market penetration.

The position is based out of the Company’s office in Reading but includes domestic and/or international travel for client visits, networking, and industry events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers and decision-makers within the industry
  • Identify and track relevant projects and opportunities
  • Engage in direct sales activities to meet or exceed annual sales targets
  • Offer expert advice and support to clients on the application of VJ Tech's product offerings and services, ensuring alignment with their requirements
  • Create, deliver presentations, and demonstrate products relative to customer needs
  • Promptly follow up on sales leads, prepare quotes, and process orders to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Prospect and generate new leads through networking, referrals, and other proactive approaches
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of industry trends, competitors’ products, and market conditions
  • Generate sales reports and forecasts as required
  • Ensure that customer inquiries, concerns/complaints, and feedback are promptly addressed and/or escalated where necessary, ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Lead and coordinate department projects and sales projects to meet deadlines
  • Report on sales metrics and suggest improvement to drive sales
  • Managing a fast-paced sales pipeline
  • Participate in regular production meetings to ensure orders align with customers’ expected delivery timelines
  • Manage new and existing opportunities through all stages of the sales cycle
  • Oversee and ensure that the company CRM system is updated, all customer and sales data is accurate, current and relevant
  • Assist the Sales Manager with marketing campaigns, materials, and sales strategies that align with the company’s objectives
  • Create and monitor sales and order forecasts by month and quarter
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute sales and marketing events, including product launches, trade shows, exhibitions, and customer engagement events as required
  • Update and monitor the sales department KPI’s & prepare regular reports on sales activities, challenges, and opportunities for improvement
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Company from time to time

Experience and Skills

  • Sales professional with at least 3-5 years of experience in technical sales; civil engineering, geotechnical or material testing industry preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field required
  • Experience with Export Sales, understanding INCOTERMS and having Letter of Credit experience/exposure required
  • Strong technical acumen with the ability to understand and demonstrate products
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in the use of CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Self-motivator who is comfortable operating autonomously, yet within the Company guidelines
