Sales Engineer
Company: Soil Instruments Limited
Location: Uckfield, England, United Kingdom. Candidates based elsewhere in the UK will be considered, with periodic travel to the Uckfield office.
Reports to: Sales Manager
Travel: Up to 30%

Soil Instruments develops and manufactures geotechnical sensing and measurement products for structural health monitoring, construction and civil engineering applications. Its instrumentation supports projects around the world, helping customers monitor ground conditions and structural performance.
About the Role
Soil Instruments is seeking a Sales Engineer to develop new business and grow sales of its products and systems across assigned territories. You will work directly with customers and through distributors, combining technical knowledge with commercial judgement to identify opportunities and recommend appropriate solutions.
You will manage opportunities from early project discussions through quotation and order placement, building lasting relationships with customers, consultants and project decision makers. You will also work closely with Engineering, Operations and Service teams to support customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage direct sales and support distributor performance to achieve agreed revenue targets.
- Develop new business through prospecting, networking, referrals and market research.
- Build and maintain relationships with customers, consultants and other project decision makers throughout the sales cycle.
- Identify, track and progress project opportunities from early concept through to order placement.
- Prepare accurate quotations and follow up with customers to move opportunities forward.
- Provide technical and commercial guidance to customers and distributors, involving Engineering, Operations and Service teams as needed.
- Support distributor development through regular communication, product updates and training.
- Represent Soil Instruments at customer meetings, trade shows and industry events.
- Maintain accurate records of sales activity, customer information, pipeline and forecasts in the CRM and related systems.
- Monitor competitor activity and market trends, sharing insights to support sales strategy, marketing and product development.
- Follow company policies, quality standards and compliance requirements, including ISO 9001 and export controls.
- Protect confidential commercial and technical information.
- Undertake other duties reasonably required by the company.

Experience and Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 years of technical sales experience, preferably within geotechnical instrumentation, civil engineering or structural monitoring.
- An HNC, degree or equivalent technical qualification in engineering, geotechnics, instrumentation or a related discipline.
- A good understanding of electromechanical devices.
- Experience working within a small or medium sized UK manufacturing business.
- Knowledge of geophysical instrumentation.
- Strong communication and relationship building skills, with the ability to engage technical and commercial stakeholders.
- The ability to work effectively with engineers, customers and partners from different countries and backgrounds.
- Experience preparing accurate quotations, reports and CRM records.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently towards agreed objectives.
- Proficiency with business software, including CRM, MRP and Microsoft Office.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% of the time and attend the Uckfield office periodically.
