Job Opportunity: Technical Sales Representative / Sales Engineer

Are you a technically minded sales professional or engineering graduate looking for a customer-facing role? If you enjoy solving technical problems, building relationships and getting out in front of customers, we're hiring a Technical Sales Representative / Sales Engineer to join a global engineering manufacturer based in Coventry. You'll combine your engineering knowledge with commercial skills while working across a wide range of industrial markets.

BASIC SALARY: £35,000 - £42,000

LOCATION: Based from either the Coventry or Wakefield office, covering the UK, Ireland, and Nordic regions. This is a field-based role with regular travel and overnight stays.

COMMUTABLE LOCATIONS: Coventry, Nuneaton, Rugby, Leamington Spa, Warwick, Kenilworth, Solihull, Hinckley, Tamworth, Birmingham, Wakefield, Leeds, Huddersfield, Barnsley, Dewsbury, Bradford.

Job Description

As our Technical Sales Representative, you'll combine your engineering knowledge with commercial responsibility, working closely with OEMs, distributors, and end users to deliver the right engineering solutions for their applications. You'll inherit an established portfolio of customers while developing new business opportunities across your territory. Spending most of your time in front of customers, you'll build long-term relationships, provide technical support, and identify opportunities to grow existing and new accounts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop an existing portfolio of customer accounts
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities across your territory
  • Build strong relationships with OEMs, distributors, and end users
  • Visit customers regularly, spending more than 60% of your time in the field
  • Provide technical advice and application support, working closely with internal product specialists
  • Support engineering discussions around existing and new product opportunities
  • Coordinate with internal service teams to deliver the best solution for your customers
  • Implement agreed pricing strategies and maintain an accurate CRM pipeline
  • Deliver against sales targets and business objectives

Person Specification

We're looking for someone with a strong mechanical engineering background, excellent communication skills, and the ambition to build a successful career in technical sales. You don't need years of experience: you need curiosity, drive, and a solid technical foundation, and the willingness to travel across the UK, Ireland, and Nordic regions, including overnight stays.

You'll Ideally Have

  • HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, or a related Engineering discipline
  • Experience within technical sales, internal sales, applications engineering, or technical support, or be an engineer looking to move into a customer-facing commercial role
  • The ability to read engineering drawings and understand mechanical engineering principles
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the confidence to build customer relationships

Graduates with relevant engineering qualifications, internships, or placement experience are encouraged, as full product training and ongoing support will be provided.
