Sales Engineer | London | Up to £80,000 + benefits | Permanent, full-time, on-site
About the Role
We are working with a leading specialist provider of data centre design, supply, build and managed services, delivering integrated solutions for data centre operators across the UK and internationally.
They are looking for a Sales Engineer to join their pre-construction team. This is a technical bid and solutions role: you will own the design and solution requirements behind multiple sales proposals and bid estimations, translating a client's enquiry into a costed, deliverable and compelling technical submission.
You will sit at the point where engineering meets commercial. You will work closely with senior management to shape bid-winning strategies, pull in the right technical support from internal teams and the supply chain, and make sure every submission lands on time and answers what the client actually asked. It is a visible role with genuine influence over which projects the business wins.
Responsibilities
- Produce design and solution requirements for multiple sales proposals and bid estimations, demonstrating strong technical understanding of the solutions offered
- Take ownership of assigned bids, engaging supply chain stakeholders early where needed to meet client timescales
- Work with senior management to identify and convert opportunities into profitable contracts in line with business strategy
- Use technical expertise, market intelligence and customer knowledge to build bid-winning strategies that differentiate the business from its competition
- Ensure accuracy of estimated costs through detailed review, leading and taking part in peer reviews with the wider team and senior management
- Present cost and sales values at final settlement, capturing risks and opportunities
- Manage the production of allocated bid submissions so that differentiators are communicated clearly, documents are delivered on time, and all formal and informal questions in the ITT are fully answered
- Maintain sales pipeline data on bid submission using the business's management tools
- Lead secured bid handovers, making sure knowledge transfers cleanly to the project teams so they fully understand the client design specification, build, supplier quotations and requirements
- Act as a subject matter expert to project teams throughout delivery
- Build and develop an internal and external network that supports tendering and winning
- Manage third-party and supply chain relationships that are cost-effective and provide efficient service
- Collate and share customer feedback, keeping up to date with market and environmental trends to inform service development
- Represent the business at industry events and with clients, upholding company values and maintaining client confidentiality in line with data protection and information security standards

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
