Sales Engineer

Join an established engineering business with more than 50 years of industry experience, a team of 300+ people, and an annual turnover exceeding £100 million.

We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Sales Engineer to join our team and play a key role in developing customer relationships, winning new business, and delivering technically compliant, commercially sound proposals.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established and successful company where engineering expertise, customer relationships, and long-term partnerships are at the heart of what we do.

The Role

Working closely with our Sales and Engineering teams, you will take ownership of the sales process from initial enquiry through to contract handover and beyond. You will become an important link between our customers, commercial teams, and engineers, ensuring that projects are accurately estimated, clearly specified, and delivered in line with customer requirements.

Your Responsibilities

  • Taking responsibility for complying with the company's Business Management System within your area of activity.
  • Evaluating and preparing sales tenders and estimates, working collaboratively with internal and external members of the sales team.
  • Building strong relationships with potential and existing customers, from the initial enquiry through to order and project delivery.
  • Preparing estimates and tenders in accordance with the company's engineering standards, procedures, and product requirements.
  • Working with customers at the order stage to ensure compliance with the company's commercial and credit-control procedures.
  • Preparing comprehensive contract folders for handover to Engineering and actively participating in handover meetings.
  • Maintaining regular customer contact throughout the enquiry and post-order stages, ensuring continuity, professionalism, and excellent customer relationships.
  • Working closely with Engineering to ensure projects meet the agreed build specification, including any works required on customer sites.
  • Supporting the Engineering team with the commercial assessment and management of contract cost variations.
  • Assessing new products, suppliers, technologies, and techniques alongside Sales and Engineering colleagues, helping us continually improve our offering.
  • Attending internal and external meetings with customers, including meetings at customer offices and project sites, as required.
  • Where CAD skills are available, supporting the Sales team with the creation of General Arrangement drawings and single-line power schematics using AutoCAD, based on your own sketches or those provided by colleagues.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
