Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Location: Covering three branches in Kilmarnock and Ayr.

  • Kilmarnock (KA1 2NN & KA1 3XA) and Ayr (KA8 9AE)

Role Overview

To manage and grow an assigned customer portfolio across three branches in Kilmarnock and Ayr, building strong relationships, identifying sales opportunities and reactivating dormant accounts. Working closely with branch teams, the role will deliver excellent customer service, drive profitable sales growth and support opportunities across the wider branch network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow an assigned portfolio of customers across three branches in Kilmarnock and Ayr.
  • Build strong customer relationships, understand their needs and identify opportunities to increase sales and profitability.
  • Be proactive and visible, including regular customer and site visits.
  • Manage estimates, orders and projects, ensuring a smooth customer experience from enquiry through to delivery.
  • Follow up and requote projects to achieve agreed revenue, margin and growth targets.
  • Target dormant and lapsed accounts to reactivate and grow customer spend.
  • Support the onboarding of new accounts and help establish ongoing trading relationships.
  • Work closely with branches to ensure orders are accurate, prioritised and aligned with customer requirements.
  • Build strong supplier relationships and work collaboratively to secure and grow customer business.
  • Look beyond your immediate branch or customer portfolio to identify opportunities, working with the relevant local branch to maximise them.
  • Support and coach branch colleagues where appropriate, sharing knowledge and helping the branch when additional support is needed.
  • Build effective relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience within builders' merchants, suppliers or construction is desirable but not essential.
  • Demonstrates strong commercial awareness, understanding how sales, margin, customer service, and stock management contribute to business success and profitability preferred but not essential.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Proven ability to grow customer accounts and identify new sales opportunities.
  • Experience managing a customer portfolio and developing strong commercial relationships.
  • Confident communicating with customers by phone, email and face-to-face, including site visits.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your own diary and priorities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • A proactive, self-starting approach with commercial curiosity and the confidence to spot and pursue opportunities.
