Reporting To: Sales Director - New Business

Location: UK Based at any of our facilities Tyne, Birkenhead, Padstow, Falmouth or Gibraltar with Regular Travel

As we continue to grow as One Balaena, we're looking for an exceptional Sales Executive - New Sales to help expand our customer base, strengthen our market presence and win new opportunities across our target sectors.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, results-driven sales professional who thrives on building relationships, creating opportunities and closing deals. You'll play a key role in driving Balaena's growth, working directly with customers across the UK and beyond to identify opportunities, develop solutions and secure new business.

We're looking for someone who is commercially minded, highly motivated and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, target-driven environment. Someone who enjoys being on the road, meeting customers face-to-face, opening doors and converting opportunities into long-term partnerships. Role Purpose

To identify, pursue and secure new customers and revenue opportunities across Balaena's target markets. This is a proactive, field-based sales role focused on generating pipeline, opening new customer relationships, winning contracts and delivering profitable growth.

The role holder will spend significant time meeting prospective customers, identifying opportunities, promoting Balaena's capabilities and converting opportunities into revenue. This role is critical to delivering Balaena's growth ambitions and expanding our presence across key markets including Defence, Offshore, New Build, Fabrication, Cruise, Ferry, Port Services, Boats and Ship Repair.

Role Environment & Reward

This is a high-performance, target-driven sales role operating within a commission-based reward structure. Success will be measured through revenue generation, margin achievement, pipeline growth, customer engagement activity and delivery of agreed commercial objectives.

The role requires a proactive approach to sales, significant customer-facing activity and regular travel throughout the UK and internationally where required. Individuals will be expected to spend substantial time in the market meeting customers, developing opportunities, strengthening relationships and securing new revenue for Balaena.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate new sales opportunities across assigned sectors and markets.
  • Build and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities.
  • Identify, contact and engage prospective customers and key decision-makers.
  • Conduct customer visits, presentations, site meetings and networking activity.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with potential customers.
  • Qualify customer requirements and coordinate internal resources to develop solutions.
  • Support the preparation of proposals, tenders, quotations and commercial submissions.
  • Lead commercial discussions through to contract award.
  • Work closely with Technical, Estimating and Operational teams to secure new orders.
  • Maintain accurate opportunity, pipeline and forecast information within CRM systems.
  • Monitor market activity, competitor activity and emerging opportunities.
  • Represent Balaena professionally at exhibitions, conferences, customer events and industry forums.
  • Promote the full range of Balaena capabilities to maximise sales opportunities across the Group.
  • Deliver agreed revenue, margin and sales activity targets.

What are we looking for in you?

  • Proven track record within a sales role, preferably within engineering, maritime, defence, fabrication, manufacturing or industrial services.
  • Demonstrated ability to win new customers and secure profitable contracts.
  • Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to operate independently and manage a sales territory.
  • Experience managing complex sales opportunities and tender processes.
  • Strong networking and relationship building capability.
  • CRM experience.
  • Full UK driving licence.
