Business Development Associate | Full Cycle New Business
About Citation
Citation helps businesses across the UK navigate some of the most important and complex aspects of running a company. We provide specialist support across HR, Employment Law, Health & Safety, ISO, and business compliance, helping SMEs and growing organizations reduce risk, stay compliant, and effectively manage their people. Our customers range from small businesses to larger organizations across sectors including construction, manufacturing, professional services, care, hospitality, education, retail, and facilities management. You’ll be selling solutions that address genuine business challenges, speaking directly with the people responsible for making those decisions.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for the entire new business journey. You’ll:
- Generate your own pipeline through proactive outbound prospecting
- Research and identify businesses that could benefit from Citation’s solutions
- Speak directly with business owners and senior decision makers
- Run discovery conversations and uncover genuine business challenges
- Build relationships and develop opportunities
- Present and position solutions across HR, Employment Law, Health & Safety, and compliance
- Handle objections and negotiate commercially
- Manage your own pipeline from first conversation through to close
- Close your own new business
- Take ownership of your activity, pipeline, and results
- Continuously develop your approach through coaching and sales training

What Makes This Different?

We’re looking for sales professionals who enjoy generating their own opportunities, building relationships, and taking ownership of the entire sales process. You’ll be comfortable picking up the phone, creating opportunities where none existed, having challenging commercial conversations, and, most importantly, closing business.
Who We’re Looking For
You’ll need proven experience in full cycle sales. We’re looking for someone who has already demonstrated that they can generate their own opportunities, manage a sales process, and close their own business. You might come from:
- B2B Sales
- Business Development
- Recruitment
- Telesales
- Account Management
- Consultative Sales
- SaaS or Technology Sales
- Professional Services
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has a proven track record of achieving sales targets
- Is comfortable generating their own pipeline
- Can prospect confidently and consistently
- Knows how to run an effective discovery conversation
- Can identify customer needs and create commercial value
- Is confident handling objections and negotiating
- Has the confidence to ask for the business
- Takes ownership of their pipeline and performance
- Is motivated by achievement and uncapped earning potential
- Wants to continue developing as a sales professional
