About The Role
We are looking for a full-time Sales Ledger Controller to join our Finance Operations Team within the Finance Department, based at our Hereford office.
Reporting to the Finance Operations Team Leader, you will play a key role in supporting our sales ledger function, ensuring accurate invoicing, maintaining strong financial controls, and leading our Credit Control Team.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a varied and rewarding Finance role, combining responsibility for the sales ledger function with the processing of our two monthly payrolls, offering exposure to multiple areas of the Finance function.
This position offers flexibility in working hours, with the ability to work your contracted hours around our core business hours of 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily banking activities, including posting receipts and completing bank reconciliations.
- Generate and submit Direct Debit payment files and other monthly payment submissions.
- Maintain client account information, including account set-up and direct debit details.
- Complete month-end sales ledger activities, including reconciliations, reporting, and balance sheet controls.
- Ensure sales ledger procedures are maintained, documented, and updated as required.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance processes, controls, and efficiency.
- Act as the Finance lead on invoicing-related projects and system developments.
- Support the annual external audit by providing information and responding to queries.
- Ensure all sales ledger records and documentation are accurately maintained.
- Prepare payroll information for review, including overtime, on-call payments, pension deductions, and other payroll adjustments.
- Lead, support, and develop the Credit Control Team through coaching, regular one-to-one meetings, and performance management.
About You
The skills, experience, and qualities we are looking for:
- Substantial experience within an accountancy or finance environment, ideally in a Sales Ledger, Credit Control, or similar role.
- AAT qualification (preferred) or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience of supervising, supporting, or leading a team, with the ability to motivate others and lead by example.
- Strong understanding of sales ledger processes, credit control activities, financial controls, and payroll administration.
- Knowledge of payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and payroll best practices.
- Excellent accuracy and attention to detail, with a commitment to maintaining high standards.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, work to deadlines, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organisational skills and a methodical approach to work.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues, customers, suppliers, and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, contributing positively to team culture and supporting others.
- A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement, with the confidence to identify opportunities to enhance processes and controls.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, with experience of accounting, finance, and payroll systems.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive financial and employee information with discretion and professionalism.

It Would Be Beneficial If You Also Have
- Experience using Sage or similar finance and payroll systems.
- Experience preparing and processing payroll.
- Experience producing financial reports and analysing financial data.
- Knowledge of employment-related payroll requirements, including statutory payments and deductions.
