Sales Manager – CIPD Courses

Salary: £45,000–£50,000 per annum + commission
Location: Hybrid – 2 days per week in the office in Aldgate
Team: Sales / CIPD
Reports to: Head of Sales / Leadership Team

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Sales Manager to lead a high-performing sales team focused on the growth of our CIPD courses and programmes. This is a hands-on leadership role, combining team management, coaching and sales performance with a strong focus on delivering an excellent experience for prospective learners and customers. You will manage, motivate and develop the sales team, ensuring they have the skills, knowledge and confidence to convert enquiries into learners. You will also work closely with the wider CIPD team, supporting commercial activity, improving processes and helping to identify opportunities to grow the CIPD offering. The successful candidate will be an experienced sales leader who enjoys developing people, understands the importance of sales activity and conversion, and can create a positive, accountable and high-performing team culture.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Team Leadership

  • Lead, manage and motivate the Sales Team to achieve agreed revenue and enrolment targets.
  • Set clear individual and team objectives, activity targets and KPIs.
  • Conduct regular one-to-ones, performance reviews and coaching sessions.
  • Identify development needs and create individual development plans to improve performance.
  • Support the recruitment, onboarding and training of new sales team members.
  • Create a positive, collaborative and performance-focused sales culture.
  • Recognise strong performance and proactively address underperformance.

CIPD Course Sales

  • Lead the sales process for CIPD courses, ensuring prospective learners receive accurate, engaging and timely information.
  • Coach the team on effective consultative selling, objection handling, follow-up and conversion techniques.
  • Ensure the team understands the CIPD product portfolio, learner journey and key customer benefits.
  • Work closely with the CIPD team to ensure sales activity is aligned with course availability, delivery and commercial priorities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve enquiry-to-enrolment conversion and learner retention.
  • Monitor customer feedback and use insight to improve the sales experience.

Sales Performance & Reporting

  • Monitor daily, weekly and monthly sales performance against targets.
  • Track key metrics including enquiries, calls, appointments, conversions, revenue and pipeline.
  • Produce regular sales reports and provide clear insight into team performance.
  • Maintain accurate sales forecasts and pipeline visibility.
  • Use CRM data to identify trends, opportunities and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure consistent CRM usage and high standards of data quality across the team.

Training & Development

  • Deliver regular sales coaching, training sessions and team development activities.
  • Develop and maintain sales scripts, guides, processes and best-practice resources.
  • Coach team members on consultative selling and effective communication.
  • Support new starters through structured onboarding and sales training.
  • Share successful approaches and continuously improve the team's sales capability.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has proven experience managing and developing a sales team.
  • Is confident coaching salespeople and improving individual performance.
  • Has a strong track record of delivering against sales targets and KPIs.
  • Has experience in consultative or education/training sales, ideally selling professional qualifications or courses.
  • Is confident using CRM systems and sales reporting tools.
  • Has excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills.
  • Is organised, commercially minded and comfortable working with data.
  • Can balance hands-on sales management with longer-term team development.
  • Enjoys working collaboratively with other teams and stakeholders.
  • Has a positive, proactive approach and takes ownership of results.
