About The Role
Sales Manager (Permanent, Full-Time) sought by a well-established engineering firm in Birtley, Gateshead. The successful candidate will receive a salary of £50,000 per annum, supported by a performance-related bonus, company car, and additional benefits. This role centres on owning the sales strategy, with a clear mandate to win new customers and penetrate fresh markets. Responsibilities include growing existing strategic accounts, developing major hydraulic and electro-hydraulic engineering opportunities, and boosting recurring service revenue. The post holder will build robust relationships with customers, OEMs, and suppliers, whilst establishing a disciplined sales pipeline. Improving forecasting accuracy and CRM usage is also key, ensuring the commercial function operates with precision and sustainable growth.

About The Role:
The Sales Manager will take responsibility for developing and delivering the sales strategy, with a particular focus on:
- Winning new customers and developing new markets.
- Growing existing strategic accounts.
- Developing major hydraulic and electro-hydraulic engineering opportunities.
- Increasing recurring service and maintenance revenue.
- Building strong relationships with customers, OEMs, and suppliers.
- Establishing and managing a robust sales pipeline.
- Improving sales forecasting and CRM discipline.
- Protecting gross margin while delivering profitable growth.

The successful candidate will be expected to be out in the marketplace, meeting customers, identifying opportunities, and personally driving new business.
Key Duties:
Sales & Business Development
- Develop and implement the annual sales plan with the Managing Director.
- Identify and target high-value customers and sectors.
- Generate new business through proactive prospecting, networking, referrals, and customer visits.
- Develop relationships with senior decision-makers, engineering teams, and procurement.
- Prepare, present, and negotiate commercial proposals.
- Convert opportunities into profitable orders.
Account Management
- Develop strategic account plans for key customers.
- Increase customer spend.
- Identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities across systems, connection, service, and components.
- Develop long-term customer relationships.
- Re-engage dormant customers and develop new contacts within existing accounts.
Pipeline & Commercial Management
- Build and maintain a qualified sales pipeline.
- Ensure every opportunity has a clear value, probability, forecast date, and next action.
- Maintain accurate CRM records.
- Provide reliable monthly sales forecasts.
- Monitor quotation conversion and lost business.
- Ensure sales activity is focused on opportunities with appropriate commercial and margin potential.
Market Development
- Develop focused sales strategies for priority markets including marine, subsea, renewable, defence, infrastructure, and industrial applications.
- Monitor competitors, market developments, and customer requirements.
- Develop relationships with OEMs, engineering companies, contractors, and end users.

Internal Collaboration
- Work closely with engineering, service, and operations to develop appropriate customer solutions.
- Ensure technical feasibility, capacity, cost, and delivery requirements are understood before significant commitments are made.
- Represent the customer's interests internally while protecting the business commercial position.
Essential
The person:
- Proven track record in B2B sales and business development.
- Experience selling technical, engineered, or industrial products/services.
- Demonstrable success in winning new customers.
- Strong account-management and relationship-building skills.
- Commercially aware with good negotiation skills.
- Experience managing a sales pipeline and CRM system.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Highly organised, proactive, and self-motivated.
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of results.
- Willingness to travel regularly to customers and prospects.
Advantageous
Experience in one or more of the following:
- Hydraulics / fluid power.
- Electro-hydraulics, mechanical, or industrial engineering.
- Marine, Subsea, Defence, Renewable, Oil & Gas.
- Industrial equipment.
- OEMs.
- Engineering services.
