About the Role
The Sales Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth through proactive sales activity, managing corporate, group and event accounts, and building strong relationships with clients to maximise business for the hotel. The role works closely with Revenue, Marketing and Events to convert opportunities into confirmed business.

Responsibilities
This role requires a 70% proactive and 30% reactive sales approach, with a strong focus on generating new business and developing client relationships.
Specifically, you will be responsible for, but not limited to, performing the following tasks to the highest standards:
- Develop and implement the hotel's sales strategy and account plan to achieve revenue targets across rooms, meetings and events
- Proactively identify, target and secure new business from corporate, group and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and events) clients
- Manage and grow relationships with existing corporate accounts, travel agents and tour operators
- Conduct sales calls, site inspections and client entertainment to build relationships and secure business
- Prepare and negotiate proposals, contracts and rate agreements for corporate and group business
- Manage the sales pipeline and CRM system, ensuring accurate tracking of leads, opportunities and conversion
- Collaborate with Revenue Management to ensure pricing and availability decisions align with commercial strategy
- Attend trade shows, networking events and industry functions to promote the hotel and generate new leads
- Work with the Events team to convert enquiries into confirmed bookings for meetings, weddings and private events
- Prepare and present regular sales reports, forecasts and pipeline updates to the General Manager
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key feeder markets and booking channels
- Support the Marketing team with sales collateral, case studies and campaign input
- Conduct competitor analysis to identify market positioning, pricing and business opportunities
- Manage RFP (request for proposal) processes for corporate and group accounts, ensuring timely and competitive responses
- Build and maintain a strong network of local and regional business contacts to generate referral business
- Support contract renewal and rate negotiation processes for existing corporate accounts
- Monitor and report on sales KPIs, including conversion rates, account growth and revenue delivered
- Represent the hotel professionally at all times, upholding brand standards in all client-facing activity

General Standards
As with every role at Abbey Hotel Bath, you're expected to work safely, protect guest and company confidentiality, communicate professionally with guests, suppliers and colleagues, look after company property, and support a respectful, collaborative team environment — in line with the property's standard policies and procedures.
- You'll communicate clearly and professionally with guests, suppliers, third parties and colleagues, including by phone, email and other electronic channels, and keep written records, logs and reports accurate and up to date. Sensitive or difficult conversations should be handled away from public areas of the property.
- You'll work collaboratively with the wider team, treating colleagues and guests with respect, supporting others in understanding their tasks, and handling sensitive issues with tact, diplomacy and confidentiality.
- Day-to-day, this includes standard computer and point-of-sale system use, completing tasks on time and to the required quality standard, and the general physical demands of a role that combines office-based work with regular travel to client meetings, site inspections and industry events.

Requirements
To Succeed In This Role, You’ll Need:
- Proven experience as a Sales Manager or Business Development Manager within hospitality or a comparable industry
- Strong track record of proactive sales and account management, with evidence of meeting or exceeding targets
- Experience negotiating contracts, rates and RFPs for corporate and group business
- Confident using CRM systems to manage pipeline and reporting
- Excellent relationship-building, negotiation and presentation skills
- Strong commercial acumen and understanding of hotel revenue and profitability
- Willingness to travel locally and regionally for client meetings and industry events
- Full driving licence, where travel to client sites is required
You must have the right to work in the UK to be eligible for this role. Documented evidence of eligibility will be required from all candidates prior to commencing employment.
