Job Description

Job Purpose
The Sales Manager will guide a group of distinguished Sales Specialists, acting as a coach, mentor, and team lead. We are looking for someone who will take charge of training and supporting Sales Specialists and hold responsibility for the sub-regional revenue across the entire team. Sales Specialists serve as frontline sales support for the Reference Materials and Analytical Standards product lines directed at Transactional accounts.

The Sales Manager is charged with handling relationships both upward and downward, functioning as an intermediary between the Sales Specialists and the Director of Sales. The objective of this role is to uphold the highest standard of sales experience for LGC Standard’s customers. This role will lead Sales Specialist teams to outperform their key sales goals and deliver financial performance for LGC Standards!

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide, manage, train, and develop the capabilities of a team of sales specialists.
  • Lead collaboration and coordination of LGC Standard’s sales resources (specialists, customer service, quoting, etc.) aimed at assisting all Transactional accounts to foster impactful customer experiences.
  • Use LGC’s sales tools to manage prospects, existing accounts, opportunities, and pipeline, and to forecast in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Achieve quota set for a given geography, bringing to bear collaborators as needed to deliver sales from new and existing customers.
  • Represent the complete LGC Standards product range to new and current customers, covering all end-markets (Pharma, Biotech, Environmental, etc.).
  • Identify and close new prospect opportunities, identified from a combination of prospecting and qualification from marketing provided/self-generated leads.
  • Responsible for periodically collecting and analyzing information on the largest Transactional accounts, to determine if they are eligible for segment promotion.
  • Monitor marketing to be aware of new product launches.

Qualifications

Skills You'll Use Every Day

  • Excellent selling capabilities, including prospecting, account management, and persuasion skills.
  • Deep understanding of demand and lead generation activities, including prospecting and account opportunity planning.
  • Foundational understanding of sales processes related to consumable goods; experience with reference materials and analytical standards is preferred.
  • Foundational knowledge of customers in the pharmaceutical, biotech, food & beverages, forensics, environmental, and industrial spaces.
  • A demonstrated track-record of strong leadership and mentoring ability. Experience with mentoring teams through development plans, in-person/virtual mentoring, 360 feedback, and conflict resolution.

Experience Requirements

  • Proven experience leading sales teams to meet and exceed their performance targets.
  • Great teammate, encouraging of colleagues with the ability to effectively manage up and down.
  • Strong leadership abilities – capable of guiding, advising, and holding teams responsible for personal development plans and company financial objectives.
  • Experience selling technical products used in research laboratories.
  • Good organizational abilities with strong attention to detail.
  • Scientific background and formal qualification in any applicable sector: Pharmaceutical, Life Science/Biotech, Environmental/Food/Life sciences, Industrial sciences, chemistry, etc.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Good level of computer literacy and keyboard skills; Microsoft Office is essential.
  • Flexible individual with the right attitude and a desire to succeed in a commercial environment.
  • Great teammate; encouraging of colleagues.
  • Customer-focused.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to relate to all levels of the business.
  • Proficiency in English. Proficiency in other languages is a plus.
  • Generate and manage leads.
