About being a Sales Manager at Gilpin Hotel & Lake House
Gilpin Hotel & Lake House is a family-owned country house hotel on the eastern shore of Windermere, in the heart of the Lake District — recognised with Two MICHELIN Keys, AA Five Red Stars, and a Michelin star for our restaurant, SOURCE. We've been named among Tripadvisor's Best of the Best hotels worldwide, featured in The Telegraph's Top 250 Places to Stay, and voted Best Spa Hotel in the Lake District. This is a rare opportunity to lead commercial sales for one of the UK's most decorated independent luxury hotels, reporting into the General Manager.
The Sales Manager leads the commercial sales strategy for Gilpin Hotel & Lake House, maximising revenue across all streams while ensuring every interaction reflects our calm luxury, personalised service, and Two Michelin Key standards. The role blends proactive sales activity, relationship building, data-led decision making, and cross-department collaboration to drive occupancy, rate growth, and conversion.
Your Role as Sales Manager:
- Revenue Strategy - develops and delivers a targeted sales plan aligned to occupancy goals, rate strategy, seasonal demand patterns, and maximising luxury transient revenue across both sites.
- Lead Management - oversees the full enquiry-to-conversion cycle, ensuring timely follow-up, personalised proposals, and consistent conversion tracking.
- Corporate Partnerships - builds and maintains relationships with corporate clients, travel partners, luxury agencies, and Lake District tourism networks to generate new business.
- Leisure & Luxury Travel Trade Sales - cultivates strong relationships with elite travel advisors, luxury tour operators, and consortia partners, developing and executing strategic sales plans that build long-term business loyalty and drive repeat leisure bookings across both properties.
- Weddings & Events Sales - owns proactive sales and conversion for weddings and events across Gilpin and the Lake House, working closely with the Front Office, Lake House and Marketing Teams to optimise diary management, upsell exclusives, and secure high-value bookings.
- Lake House Sales - drives sales for Lake House exclusives, private hire, retreats, and premium experiences, ensuring strong occupancy, pace and rate protection.
- SOURCE & Gilpin Spice Sales - supports restaurant sales through targeted campaigns, partnerships, and guest-journey integration.
- Data & Reporting - produces weekly and monthly sales reports, analysing conversion, enquiry trends, room rates, channel performance, and revenue opportunities.
- Cross-Department Collaboration - works with operational teams to ensure seamless delivery of sold experiences.
- Brand Representation - represents Gilpin Hotel and Lake House at networking events, trade shows, and partner meetings, showcasing our luxury identity.
- Upselling & Experience Design - identifies opportunities to enhance guest stays through curated experiences, upgrades, and personalised recommendations.
- System & CRM Management - maintains accurate records of enquiries, proposals, contracts, and client communication.
- Team Support - supports operational teams with sales training, call-handling standards, and conversion techniques.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
