Sales Manager โ Structural Steel
๐ Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
๐ผ Permanent | Full Time
๐ฐ Competitive salary, depending on experience
Selling steel isn't about sending out a few quotes and waiting for the phone to ring.
You need to understand what you're selling, who can deliver it, what makes a project commercially worthwhile and how to turn a conversation with a client into steel leaving the fabrication yard. That's where you come in.
We're looking for a Sales Manager with experience working for a structural steel fabricator to develop relationships, identify new opportunities and bring profitable work into the business.
The Role
You'll be responsible for developing new business while looking after and growing existing client relationships.
- You'll be speaking with contractors, developers, engineers and other industry contacts, understanding upcoming projects and getting the business involved early enough to compete for the work.
- You'll identify opportunities, qualify enquiries and work closely with estimating, engineering and project teams to make sure what's being sold is something the business can deliver successfully.
- You'll also stay close to clients throughout the process, building relationships that lead to repeat business rather than treating every project as a one-off transaction.

Iโm in my final year doing Economics and I donโt know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer โ it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) donโt need a masters. Letโs look at the ones youโd be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet โ that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Why This Role?
You'll be selling something you actually understand.
Your steelwork experience means you can have meaningful conversations with clients, understand the challenges behind their projects and work with the internal team to put forward realistic, commercially viable solutions.
There's also plenty of scope to make your mark, developing new relationships, opening doors to new projects and helping grow the order book rather than simply managing an existing sales pipeline.
