Sales Manager / Sales Director Designate – Timber Manufacturing
West Yorkshire | Manufacturing | Retail Displays
Package: Up to £75,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus uncapped/targeted OTE of £120,000 and potential equity participation.
An established, growing manufacturer of point-of-sale display equipment is seeking a driven and ambitious Sales Manager / Sales Director Designate to lead its next phase of commercial growth.
This is an exciting opportunity to reinvigorate the sales function of a formerly proprietorially owned business.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a proven sales professional who can win and grow major retail accounts, bring energy and structure to an underdeveloped sales function, and build a high-performing team. You will have genuine scope to shape the commercial strategy and progress into the Sales Director role as the business grows.
The Opportunity
You will take ownership of sales performance across the business, balancing strategic leadership with direct business development activity. Working closely with the senior leadership team, you will develop a clear route-to-market strategy, strengthen key customer relationships and create a more focused, accountable sales operation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead, motivate and develop the sales function to deliver sustainable revenue growth.
- Develop and execute a sales strategy across new-business acquisition, account growth and customer retention.
- Win new customers and build senior relationships with national and multi-site retailers.
- Grow existing accounts through effective account management, cross-selling and commercial negotiation.
- Recruit, coach and develop a capable sales and business-development team.
- Establish clear sales KPIs, pipeline disciplines, forecasting and performance reporting.
- Use market intelligence, customer insight and lead-generation data to improve commercial performance.
- Monitor competitor activity and identify new product, sector and channel opportunities.
- Work with operational and leadership colleagues to ensure sales commitments are commercially sound and deliverable.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About You
You will be a commercially driven sales leader who combines strong relationship-building skills with a disciplined, data-led approach to performance management.
You are likely to bring:
- A demonstrable record of selling successfully into large multi-site retailers, including national retailers, garden-centre groups or independent retail networks.
- Experience in a manufacturing, point-of-sale, timber, building materials, retail-fixtures or related environment; this is advantageous but not essential where relevant retail-sector experience is strong.
- A track record of personally winning new business as well as leading sales or business-development teams.
- The credibility and energy to reinvigorate a sales team and create a high-performance culture.
- Strong commercial acumen, including pricing, margin management, forecasting and deal negotiation.
- Confidence using CRM, sales KPIs, lead-generation tools and data to manage pipeline conversion and return on investment.
- The ability to build trusted relationships with customers, colleagues and senior stakeholders.
- Ambition to develop into a broader Sales Director role.
