Looking for a hospitality career with a better work-life balance?
If you've built your career in hotels, hospitality or guest services and love looking after people, but you're ready to leave behind the relentless pace of commercial hospitality, this could be exactly what you're looking for.
At Ampleforth Abbey you'll still deliver exceptional guest experiences—but in one of Yorkshire's most peaceful and inspiring settings. Our guests come to retreat, reflect, attend conferences, visit the Abbey or enjoy special events, creating a welcoming environment where genuine hospitality matters more than high turnover.
We're looking for an experienced hospitality manager to lead our Retreat and Guest Relations team, overseeing guest services from initial enquiry through to arrival while ensuring every visitor receives the warm Benedictine welcome for which the Abbey is known.
What you'll be doing
- Leading our 2 Retreat Coordinators & Event Coordinator
- Managing retreat, conference, event and group bookings.
- Ensuring a seamless guest journey from enquiry to arrival.
- Working closely with the Monastic Community and operational teams to deliver exceptional hospitality.
- Maximising occupancy, revenue and guest satisfaction.
- Supporting the planning and delivery of conferences, concerts and special events.
- Driving continuous improvements in guest experience and service standards.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
