Salesforce Developer

Newcastle upon Tyne | Hybrid 3 days on site | Permanent, full time | Up to ยฃ55,000 |

Role overview

Our client is a growing UK technology business running a complex, heavily customised Salesforce estate across Sales Cloud, Service Cloud and Marketing Cloud Engagement, supporting around 200 internal users. The client is named on application.

As Salesforce Developer you will sit in a small team of two experienced Salesforce Developers and a Salesforce Administrator, responsible for designing, building and maintaining custom solutions across the org. You will play a central part in the ongoing migration of legacy Aura and Visualforce customisations onto Lightning Web Components, and in building and maintaining the integrations that connect Salesforce to the wider technology estate.

This is a development role in a real-world, working org rather than a greenfield build, so there is genuine technical complexity and clear scope to improve what is already there.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain Apex classes, triggers, batch jobs, scheduled jobs and queueable Apex to support complex business processes.
  • Build and maintain Lightning Web Components to improve the user interface and day-to-day productivity for around 200 internal users.
  • Lead and contribute to the migration of legacy Aura components and Visualforce pages onto LWC and modern Salesforce patterns, as part of the team's ongoing technical improvement programme.
  • Develop and maintain integrations between Salesforce and third-party systems, including ERP and marketing automation platforms, using REST and SOAP APIs, Platform Events and middleware.
  • Write optimised SOQL and SOSL, with a working awareness of Governor Limits and platform performance constraints.
  • Work with the Salesforce Administrator where configuration and development meet, applying a configuration-first approach and moving to custom development only where it is needed.
  • Gather requirements from stakeholders across the business, produce technical designs and deliver to agreed timescales.
  • Take part in and lead code reviews, hold the coding standards and champion development best practice across the team.
  • Support testing, deployment and release management using Salesforce DX, Salesforce CLI, change sets and Git-based version control.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation, including solution designs, technical specifications and developer guides.
  • Provide third-line technical support on complex issues escalated from the Salesforce Administrator or end users.
  • Track Salesforce platform releases, assess the impact on the existing org and identify opportunities to improve it.

Iโ€™m in my final year doing Economics and I donโ€™t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer โ€” it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) donโ€™t need a masters. Letโ€™s look at the ones youโ€™d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet โ€” that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
