Salesforce Commerce Cloud & Order Management Solution Architect

Executive Summary

We are seeking an experienced Salesforce Commerce Cloud Solution Architect to join our enterprise-scale client's Digital and Technology team.

Operating within a high-profile, multi-cloud ecosystem, you will lead the architecture, design and governance of digital commerce and fulfillment capabilities across an extensive retail and service operation. Sitting within the Salesforce Centre of Excellence (CoE), you will take direct ownership of Commerce Cloud and Salesforce Order Management (SOM) solutions. You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, developers and platform leads to establish integration patterns, shared architecture standards and cross-cloud governance.

Success in this role means delivering secure, scalable and high-performing platforms that meet commercial objectives and provide users with a seamless, world-class digital journey.

Core Responsibilities

  • Architectural Governance: Own the solution architecture and technical direction for digital commerce and order management, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and broader digital roadmaps.
  • CoE Leadership: Actively participate in the Salesforce Centre of Excellence. Define shared standards, reusable design patterns and platform governance across internal engineering teams and external implementation partners.
  • Journey Design: Architect end-to-end customer journeys across B2B, B2C and D2C commerce touchpoints. Ensure seamless integration into Salesforce Order Management (SOM) to support complex retail operations.
  • System Integration: Design resilient integration patterns connecting Commerce Cloud and SOM to Core Salesforce platforms including; Data Cloud, Marketing Cloud and external enterprise systems (ERP, PIM, WMS, data feeds).
  • Platform Optimization: Establish best practices for store design, transactional performance, security and scalability. Drive continuous optimization and technical debt management within the commerce domain.
  • Team Guidance: Lead technical design sessions, translate complex commerce requirements into scalable designs and provide clear technical guidance to development teams.

Target Technical Landscape

This role focuses heavily on the commerce and fulfillment layer while integrating across a rich, multi-cloud ecosystem:

  • Primary Focus: Commerce Cloud (B2B / B2C / D2C), Salesforce Order Management (SOM)
  • Wider Ecosystem: Core Sales Cloud, Service Cloud (including Service Cloud Voice), Marketing Cloud, Data Cloud, and Agentforce.

Required Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • Commerce Expertise: Proven track record as a Solution Architect designing and delivering enterprise Commerce Cloud solutions across B2C, B2B or D2C environments.
  • SOM Mastery: Hands-on experience designing order lifecycle, inventory management and fulfillment flows utilizing Salesforce Order Management (SOM).
  • Integration Patterns: Strong experience architecting complex integrations connecting commerce platforms with ERPs, payment gateways, PIM, WMS and CRM systems via APIs (REST/SOAP, OCAPI/SCAPI).
  • Technical Depth: Deep understanding of Salesforce platform architecture, data modeling, storefront design and platform performance optimization.
  • Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead technical discussions, influence decision-making, and guide delivery teams, vendors and senior business stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Advanced Certifications: Salesforce Certified Technical Architect (CTA), or B2C/B2B Commerce Solution Architect certifications.
  • Industry Experience: Experience operating in large-scale retail, e-commerce or complex travel/aviation environments.
  • Multi-Cloud Integration: Experience integrating Commerce Cloud and SOM with Salesforce Core (Sales/Service), Marketing Cloud, Data Cloud and/or Agentforce.
  • Modern Operations: Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines for Salesforce and commerce-to-service architectures (including contact center integrations).
